Great experience.

Pleasantly surprised with the experience. Had heard positive things about the zoo but wasn’t expecting too much. From the time you walk into the zoo proper you can see the care and attention to detail the zoo takes with its exhibits. Everything is clean and well presented and the variety of animals is impressive. Will definitely be including as part of our itinerary each time we visit the area.

Visiting the Zoo
Apr. 2021
Knowing little about this zoo, we were very pleasantly surprized by it's size and quality. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and the animals looked very healthy and happy. We wandered around for several hours.

You walk through an enclosure with a herd of various types of deer, which are always nuzzling you for food. (Food can be purchased at the kiosk for $2) There were some baby tamarins when we visited, which were cute.

The path goes all around the zoo, so you don't miss anything, although you are not compelled to follow it. We took plenty of photos, some of which are below.

Amazing family day out!
Mar. 2021 • Family
We took our daughter to the Halls Gap Zoo in March 2021 and she loved it, there is so many animals there for a regional Zoo it’s just incredible! The tassie Devil was awake and hanging laps around it’s pen, the Meerkats had just been fed so our daughter loved watching them eat! The facilities at the Zoo are great there’s a massive park for the kids and BBQs to cook lunch 5 stars!

Lovely Zoo, good to see the animals happy and well cared for.

Lovely zoo. Good to see the animals well cared for and most in good sized enclosures. A couple of maps along the path would be handy for those who lose their paper one as we did.
Due to covid the nocturn house and reptiles were closed.
Most of the enclosures were well sized and it was good the larger animals had a good amount of room. ie Elk, Rhino, Giraffes, Bison, Water buffalo etc. The smaller exhibits were mostly for animals such as Tamarins, birds, Alligator etc which do not move around much.
The Meerkat experience was great. Ryleigh the keeper made it very enjoyable and informative. Certainly recommend it. The Meerkat boys were very gentle and quite happy to chill with us once the food feasting was done.
We went later in the day and were lucky to catch evening feed time for many of the animals so ones which are usually less active in the day were out and about such as the Red Panda's, Cheetahs, Dingos, Servals and native animals.

Surprisingly enjoyable zoo experience
Feb. 2021
I had low expectations for what a zoo could offer in the grampians, however it was such an impressive zoo. There was such a range of animals, from pigs, monkeys, kangaroos, and giraffes.

There is a map, which guides you through the zoo to ensure you see every animal.

There is animal food sold at the entrance, so you are even able to feed free roaming deer, kangaroos and wallabies.

I particularly liked the guineapigs, as there were so many of them, and lots of little babies.

Poor animals' conditions
Mar. 2021 • Couples
Was excited to go and meet the meercats and dingos. The encounters were good, beautiful animals and staff were nice though the zoo itself left a very bitter feeling. Enclosures are small for the animals kept in them, no grass, just bare dirt and some even have fake grass! Many animals kept solitary and look very depressed. Poor alligator has a tiny concrete pool where he can just fit in one position and the outdoor area is very very small with only couple plants in the corners and some dirt again, no real vegetation and nowhere to hide. I've been in many zoos and wildlife parks around Australia and overseas too, this one is one of the worst I've seen. I understand there are much worser ones somewhere in Asia or roadside zoos that care only about their profits but here in Australia one would expect to see a better care for animals' needs. They need more than just food, they need to have some enrichment in their life, something to do, someone of their kind to interact with, more area to move around and be able to hide. Surprised to see so many positive reviews, obviously many people don't understand what animals need, some worry only about the absence of a cafe in the park! Sad.

Pleasant
Apr. 2021
The variety of animals was good, the environment was lovely, however, there were not enough shelters to sit in along the route. My husband is partially disabled and not able to walk well, but it still only took us an hour to complete the route. We drove up from Melbourne specifically to see the zoo, it was nice, but probably wont rush back. I was impressed how many people were there on Easter Sunday. Was enjoyable, but was no Dubbo zoo.

Marvellous Meerkats
Feb. 2021
We were so lucky. We were there on the second day after a Covid lockdown in Victoria and so there weren't many visitors and the Meerkat experience was available. Normally it would be a good idea to book these 'experiences' which involve getting up close and personal with the animals. In the case of the meerkats, this involved going into their enclosure, sitting down and having them leap up onto our laps as we feed them. Marvellous.

So good in fact, that we went back the next day for the Cheetah Experience. Not so close this time but still a chance to find out more about the animals and feed them.

Such a wonderful zoo
Mar. 2021
We always find this Zoo such a wonderful experience. Acres to wander at your own leisure. Deer, kangaroos, marsupials, Rhino, Giraffe, Bison, cheetah, birds and Meerkat are just a few that come to mind but there are so many more. Play area and table etc for lunch or just a break. A great day out.
