About
Founded in 1866 in the Great Western wine region of Victoria, Best’s Great Western is one of Australia’s oldest continuously family owned and operated wineries. Best’s is known to have some of the oldest vines in Australia and produces extraordinary wines with great longevity. Today, Best's Great Western draws from three vineyards, Concongella, St Andrew's, Salvation Hills at Rhymney and the newest addition Sugarloaf Creek. Henry Best’s original Nursery Block, containing over forty different varieties, and his old Shiraz and Pinot vineyards are among Australia’s most valuable viticultural resources. These are three important factors in the style and quality of Best's Great Western wines. They are elegant, mid-weight wines of great intensity and balance. Like all classic long-lived wines, age often reveals their greatest finesse. At national and international wine shows, Best's consistently garners awards and accolades.

Pros:
- phenomenal service and assistance even with the ‘non-drinker’ of the group
- casual approach to our visits and we’re able to go on a self guided tour even though we were there quite late
- delicious variety of wines, the best in the region

Cons:
- while the tour option was great, being self guided it’s a bit hard in a group setting as you all have to read off the paper
- some of our group felt very rushed once 5pm clocked over

Overall though, my top pick of wines for the region, and we tried our fair share. I was suitably impressed by the service and offer of soft drink for the non drinker. The staff did all they could to accommodate us and make us feel welcome.
Nice volume of music to help the atmosphere too. Not my exact taste in wines, but left with the most we had from any winery! Certainly recommend.

Hi tjtrops, thank you for your great review, we really appreciate your positive and constructive feedback and were glad to hear your enjoyed our wines. We are currently in the process of preparing some larger signage to place along the underground cellar walk to make it easier for all to enjoy the tour. Next time you visit these should be in place. We hope to see you again in the future! Many thanks from the entire team at Best's Wines.

Loved visiting Best’s wines today. The ambience , history and beauty of the place is as good as the wine (incredible).
Michelle looked after us impeccably, she was as engaging as she was knowledgeable about the family, wines and vineyard. Even my 12 year old enjoyed it - thanks Michelle !

We’ve had the most enjoyable afternoon at Bests Winery. We had the pleasure of meeting Viv the patriarch of the family, a beautiful 80 yo gentleman that had so much family history to share. We did the "free" wine tasting paired with a charcuterie board filled with delicious local produce. Ended up purchasing a bottle of their Dolcetto and Sparkling Shiraz.

Had a lovely tasting at Bests. The Cellar Door is presented really well with a warm and friendly ambience although we didn’t like the underground cellar but each to their own. Very interesting range of well made wines presented very professionally. Thanks Carly for a very informative tasting highly recommend to anyone visiting Great Western.

Best's Wines Great Western is one of Australia's oldest family owned and operated wineries, dating from 1866. The famous nursery block was originally planted in the late 1860s by Henry Best and family. It is home to more than 40 grape varieties -- some white, some red and some unnamed. Best's wines are long-lived and develop great finesse. If you are visiting the Grampians wine region, you should take the chance to visit this historic winery.

We enjoyed a walk through the underground caves first, which provided a good understanding of Best's history. Our tasting was good and the assistant very knowledgable. Loved the wines.

We popped in for a quick wine tasting at this picturesque winery and ended up spending almost 2 hours there. We took the self-guided cellar tour which took us through a network of some super interesting underground cellars. The wines are really good quality so we had a really enjoyable wine tasting.

Informative and relaxed wine tasting experience with delicious food sitting in the leafy garden with friends and the pooch. Don't miss the tour of the cellar - so cool.
