About
Cardinia Reservoir Park is a great place for a family day out. The open parklands, picnic and barbecue areas and native bushland are abounding with native wildlife and flora. Have a picnic among the trees, enjoy panoramic views of the park from the many lookouts and vantage points or stroll along the dam wall. The Park contains three picnic areas each with its own wonderful views of the surrounding bushlands and open lawns. There is also a permanent orienteering course set up within Cardinia Reservoir Park. The Park is home to several groups of wild Kangaroos that are best seen early in the morning or late afternoon. Watch the Eastern Grey Kangaroos feeding at dusk, or basking in the sun along the kangaroo viewing trail. Whether you are looking for a location for a family get-together, a bike ride, walk, or to see the animals, you are sure to find a special area in Cardinia Reservoir Park that meets your needs. Cardinia Reservoir can be accessed from Wellington Road or Red Hill Road. A one way road loops around the main areas of the park.

We visited this water reservoir just couple of days before it was closed till the third week of June for inspection as a part of upgrading the facility. This reservoir is one among those providing drinking water to the state. A beautiful place to refresh oneself through walking in a calm place. Also there are picnic parks on one side of the water reservoir to relax.

Cardinia dam site is a beautiful spot for a picnic and for walks. Walking track extends quite a distance on the dam giving splendid view of the lake, catchment area and the vistas of the country side. It was very convenient to get there as the car park was just adjacent to the dam and access was so easy.

Good walk thru the dense woods. Trip from parking near the park entrance is a bit steep and needs small steps. Otherwise a fantastic walk. Good view over the lake.

Good play ground with large area for picnics and socialising. No bbq facilities, toilet block close by. Shelter sheds quickly taken, very busy on weekends.

We were trying to find some kangaroos but the area was so dry i am not surprised there didn't appear to be any around. Nice playground for kids and plenty of parking and mowed areas to wander around but it would probably be much better outside of summer or after we have some more rain.

This is a nice playground within Cardinia Reservoir. Unfortunately on the day we went, one of the swings was broken. There's a variety of climbing equipment and structures, and a lovely 'tower' with a winding slide. A flying fox as well. Toilet block nearby.

The dam walk is a good one, long enough to shake out the cobwebs but not energy sapping. During our visit it wasn't very crowded which made for a peaceful and calming experience with the water and views into the valley below. There are picnic facilities and a reasonable amount of parking. It is a little exposed so we felt the full force of the wind, which might put off some people.

A short 40 min drive and we were in wildlife paradise! Though we reached after noon, we saw a large mob of around 12 Eastern Grey Kangaroos. Enjoyed watching them go about their business. Also saw four king parrots, a kookaburra and four huge yellow-tailed black cockatoos! The cockatoos were a real treat. The walk along the dam wall as well as the Kangaroo trail and the Messmate trail were lovely. Walked about 7.3 km in all.
