Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A pleasant walk with great views over Dunkeld and looking south.
Local material described walk as easy, but parts of it should probably be classified as medium difficulty.
Feb 21 - road to the car park was in poor condition, very difficult to get a sedan to the car park. We parked on the main road which added an extra kilometer to the walk.

This easy walk is a short distance from Dunkeld. You can park at the Picaninny car park on the Halls Gap road or in the car park past the Mt Sturgeon carpark. It’s around 2km walk from either carpark.
The track is easy to follow and well signposted, and will take 30-45 mins to get to the top. The walk up is a steady incline, with some steps along the way. Good footwear is recommended(runners and hiking shoes), not flip flops, or sandals.
A water bottle is a good idea in the warm weather. Allow 1-1 1/2 hours both ways.
The view from the top is very nice, with vistas towards Mt Abrupt and Dunkeld, and towards the south.

Put this one on your hit list for a short walk of 2.4km return with the elevation change 128 metres on a track graded as easy-medium. This track is a gradual climb through open forest that provides stunning wildflower displays during Spring. The summit provides excellent views of Dunkeld and Mount Abrupt. Steep track winds its way through healthy woodland to a ridge lookout.
The walk will take around 1.5 hours depending on how often you stop or enjoy the view. The track is in very good condition and well signed. I'd rate is as an easy walk.
Not wheelchair friendly. Plenty of carparking. Kid friendly. Take water and wear a hat on a sunny day.

Despite its racist name, we had a lovely hike up the Picanniny. Fairly easy walk, took about 20 mins to make it to the top. Might be a bit tricky for young kids but definitely doable! Lovely views at the top. Nice to see a few wallabies along the way, too! No picnic or toilet facilities

Stayed in Dunkeld and wanted a walk in the later afternoon. Was told about bainggug and was glad we gave it a go. Two minute drive from town, although the parking spot was a little hard to find we worked it out. The local tourist joint will help you. Anyway a very nice walk up the small hill between the two big ones and not difficult at all. Plenty of shade in places and the views going up are good and at the top even better. Looks out both sides of the Grampians. So if you want to start your holiday with an easy walk first up, this is the one for you. Walking and looking will take just over an hour so no stress. Save your energy for the big walks. A tip, the small parking area is just past the halls gap turn off and is not the main car park, this is the easy track. The main one is harder. This would be good for a family with young kids

Just the right length through nature. Not too challenging and you end up with a view which is very rewarding.

This walk is great for those that would like to try a little elevation and see how they go. There is a 2.5hr loop walk which incorporates Bainggug highlighting the beautiful bushland around the base.

Piccaninny is an easy walk (steady, gradual climb) but still provides some great views. It is overshadowed by the higher Mount Sturgeon and Mount Abrupt. We did it up in about 35 minutes. It is best to park at the Carpark on Rte C217 (900 metres past the 'official' Mount Sturgeon carpark on the corner of Rte C216 and Rte C217). The other Piccaninny Carpark on Rte C216 is not suitable for 2WD vehicles.

This walk is recommended as an introduction to the Southern Grampians, but only if you have spare days to do the other more spectacular mountain walks (Sturgeon and Abrupt).
