We were a group of 4 with interest in, but no knowledge of, gold prospecting. Enter Darren from Gold and Relics tours. He took total care of us providing the equipment, showing us how to use it all, where to look when in the field, and some interesting history from the gold rush days.

An excellent time was had by all. I would highly recommend Darren and Gold & Relic tours for anyone interested in this fascinating hobby.

Did this half day tour on a Saturday with Darren our Tour Guide who was really friendly and helpful. I brought my 9 and 12 year old along who found it fun. Darren showed us around the area and took us to a spot for panning and a spot for using metal detectors. He was really helpful with tips on having success. It was so much fun, I wish we had booked the full day tour, we didn't get enough action. We found specks of gold in the creek with the panning and found a nice little nugget with the metal detector, though there is a knack to all this prospecting, this is why you really need to go on this tour to learn from the experts. We spent about 30 mins panning and 45 mins with gold detector. Its really not much time at all. Morning tea was provided, kids loved the cakes and coke.

So glad to hear that you enjoyed your tour. It was a pleasure having you and your children along to join in the adventure. The morning tour is an introduction to gold prospecting and commences with a tour of the old goldmining diggings, morning tea and then onto some panning followed by gold detecting. In the afternoon we concentrate on gold detecting so you get another 4 hours on the detectors when you book the full day tour. We are happy to extend a half day tour into a full day if we have the room to do so. Thanks for your great review Lucy.

I have been on four day trips with Darren and not only have I been 100 % successful in my outings, but I was so grateful with the knowledge and advice Darren shared with me. Leanne was accomodating by organising the bookings at such short notice and the lunch they provided was a welcome break. I have seen a lot of the local terrain in the area but feel the highlight will be doing the extensive tour in Western Australia 2017.
The greatest investment I have made was buying a detector after going on the many tours and trying all the devices Darren had on offer. He then showed me how to use the device correctly for the different environment. I would recommend doing the tour as an opportunity to be out in the bush, in the company of enthusiastic novices, with a certain chance of finding gold under Darren's instruction. Good luck and happy travels.

The terrific operators of the tours , particularly Leanne who coordinated the tour, and Darren who conducted the tour. I took the full day tour and it started with a prompt on-time pick up by Darren in the largest 4 wheel vehicle I've ever seen. Then off to the gold fields for a preliminary explanation of where we were and what we were going to do. Next we were geared up with medal detectors and sent out to find some gold. Darren certainly provided expert advice on where to look and how to dig for the targets. Morning tea was served, and followed by a wonderful lunch which was a nice break. The afternoon was back to the gold fields and a continued search for the good stuff. At least half of the people on the tour found some gold, including me. It was the highlight of the tour for me and one of the high points of my entire trip to Australia. I am very jealous of Karolina, a local who has taken many day tours with Darren and found the most gold, as she can go out whenever she wants to. Unfortunately, I have to travel 10,212 miles (16,435 km) to get there. Terrific people and the best thing to do for a great day in the Ballarat area. Will definitely recommend to my friends and hope to return myself.

Thank you for your great review Steve. We Aussies take it for granted that we have some of the best goldfields in the world to detect in and we love sharing them with our American friends. We would love to welcome you back sometime in the not too distant future, Steve.

We finally decided to have a go at detecting, and what a fine team we picked to do it with. On their one-day tour Darren made us feel at home and went out of his way trying different equipment and locations to make sure we found gold, which we did. His knowledge of the subject was impeccable, we are glad to have shared in the experience. I did everything that I had wanted except drive the OKA but I am sure Darren would have let me sit in the driver's seat if I had asked :-)

Both Darren and his guest guide (John) were very knowledgeable with a wealth of prospecting experience, and they were generous in imparting that information. This was my first attempt at using a metal detector and I found some flecks of gold each day, as well as a pretty little 2.7g nugget on Day 2. A memorable experience.

I'm just about to do my 7th tour with Gold and Relics....Daren and Leanne are very professional in their organising of tours and dealings with customers but are very down to earth and very easy to get along with and have a good time with everyone.....Lots of knowledge about where to look for gold and how to use the equipment, always willing to lend a hand to dig a hole for those deep targets, and provide a fulfilling meal each day as well....Thank you and looking forward to the next one....

The staff were friendly, knowledgable and enthusiastic and very accommodating to ensure everyone in our group was engaged and enjoying themselves (we had babies through to adults). Highlights included stories from staff members, a trip in the bus, digging with pick axes, standing in the creek and finding real flecks of gold to keep and so much more. This experience was great value for fun, entertainment and hands on learning.
