Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The sign said 1.5 to 2 hours depending on the path and destination, but we did the hike from the bottom to the top in just a little over half an hour. We had taken the wrong path and had just simply went straight up from the dam.
On a beautiful clear day, the views are worth the hike. A word of warning, Mountain Creek Rd is unsealed and corrugated. once at the mouth to the reserve, the drive in to the dam consists of a track that is just wide enough to fit one car only. There are few opportunities to pull aside to allow oncoming vehicles to pass. The path is easily tackled in a SUV, but if you are in a regular sedan/coupe/wagon, you’ll need to be a little careful and just drive slowly as you navigate your way over potholes and ruts.

I had a couple of spare hours and picked up the leaflet from the Clunes info shop. They package it with instructions on how to get there. It's not much to look at from the bottom, and a tough climb, but great views all the way up and the top is fantastic; like a park. I'll do it again doing the loop from Oak Ridge car park to avoid the first steep bit from the dam. Watch out carefully for the orange markers from the Oak Ridge car park to the oval, and from the top back to the car park, the rest is easy to follow.

Parts of this hike are very steep with a shifting gravel track underfoot (no steps), although it is usually possible to get a grip on some vegetation. The hike is therefore not suitable for everyone.
The hike itself it quite short, it is listed at 1.2km each way, however the steepness of the slope can make it quite exhausting.
Reaching the summit makes the effort worth it. Spectacular views all around, peace and quiet, a gentle wind rustling through the leaves, birds chirping, and if you are lucky a wedge-tailed eagle gliding by.
A nice, clear, sunny day is preferred if this is possible.
The best way to approach the hike it is to just take it slowly with small steps and have a break after around 10 to 15 minutes if you need it.
Follow the orange triangles from the top of the car park near the toilets at the "Cork Oaks".
Make sure you are aware of where the last orange triangle is for your trip down, and be very careful coming down that you don't step too quickly onto moving gravel.
There are also other walks and another longer route to return to the car park.
Details about the park, walks, and a map is available online in a Parks Victoria "Park Notes" brochure.
If you are up to it this walk is highly recommended and then forever after whenever it is within sight you can recall the day you were up there at the Lollipop Tree looking down at wherever you may be at the time.
Enjoy!

The scenery and countryside here is beautiful. We really enjoyed our walk to the Lollipop tree (incongruous though it is). Apparently the locals are having a 100 year celebration of the tree's planting next year. The walk is steep in a few places but there are great views from the top across several valleys, including the wind farm.
The only thing we didn't like were the signs of four wheel driving including tyre marks churning up the track in places, broken glass and rubbish.
Otherwise we were really glad we took the time to walk here.

It's a steep climb to the top but once you get to the top you are greeted with a wonderful view of the area.
