Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I have lived in the area for 20 years but even before I lived here used to visit travelling from Hawthorn.
Love the cultural diversity, the endless choices and the people.
I am a westerner and have had some amazingly interesting conversations with local Asians who predominant the area.
I love the feeling that I am in Hong Kong or Beijing- but close to Melbourne CBD
The cheap eats are incredible and it wouldn’t matter what restaurant you go to the food will be awesome, fresh, cheap and the service quick!

If you are white, you are a minority here. Melbourne is an Asian city, out of 10 people in CBD, 9 will be of Asian descent. Here in Box Hill, 10 out of 10 will be Asian. I felt I am in HK but at least in HK there are expats scattered here and there. But in Box Hill central, none are White Australian.

We had family in the area till recently. When in Victoria we've visited to pick up South East Asian groceries unavailable in the supermarkets. The market has always had a Chinese feel but this time since COVID we've noticed the scarcity of the foodstuff we once used to be able to get. If you are looking for Thai or Philippino groceries go elsewhere.
Prices were very high, unsure whether the anchor tenants (Usually Colesworths duopoly) are pulling strings or Centre rents are driving the disparity but the prices for produce was above Supermarket prices and seeing the boxes sourced from exactly the same suppliers. Butchers we avoided seeing the prices.
Other markets are better value though have their own negative points like Preston and Footscray. After having purchased products from western Sydney markets I can only come to the conclusion Melbourne markets don't have the independent supply chains (Rely on the Melbourne Produce Markets at Epping) that Sydney does.

This shopping centre has recently been expanded. The new extension has a new Coles Supermarket, a Chemist Warehouse, new restaurants and a few other shops. The previous Coles Supermarket was closed permanently when the new location opened.
My wife and I continue to visit this place once every three weeks, to buy some groceries and have lunch at one of the restaurants.

A fascinating visit to Box Hill central . I write this saying that I love multi-cultural Australia and the variety this has provided but Box Hill has gone too far. It is not just Chinese dominated, it is almost 100% Chinese and while this is quite amazing to see in an Eastern Suburb ( affluent ) in Melbourne there is actually a serious lack of variety when it comes to eating. Apart from McDonalds there is simply no other eating choice other than Chinese and Asian . Having eaten Asian food 3x in a row we were looking for something different tonight but to no avail , simply 100% Asian , so had to go back to the hotel and Uber eats to get something different. I am afraid this is no longer multi- culturalism in Box Hill.

It’s okay if you like everyday Asian food. Apart from that there’s nothing. No clothes shops, no book shops, no shoe shops, no music, no newsagents, not even a Post Office. Definitely nothing cool or interesting. There is a train station and some pigeons. And a shop that sells lots of little plastic things for the kitchen.

Well established shopping centre with great transport links for train, tram and bus. Also plenty of undercover car parking. Good selection of stalls in Food Market. Large Woolworths and Coles as well. Rest of the centre including Main St limited and very average. Many Asian cafes to choose from on nearby Carrington Rd and Station St.

Lived here for 30yrs and agree with other reviews Boxhill is now a ghetto and another Chinatown, where if you only speak English, you feel totally out of place, and few shops cater for you except the majors. It is more for people whom want to eat Asian food. Parking now is also a problem, as well as rubbish and litter.

I have lived in the area for 28 years and seen the ethnic change now making this suburb and the retail precinct mainly Asian. All my neighbours are Chinese and that's not a problem as they are nice people. However, we now avoid this Mall/Plaza. For a start it costs dollars to park. For a cultural experience one could imagine being in Kowloon or any part of Hong Kong. The whole experiencing has amazing range of food on offer. It is really cheap and we have tried it several times but they do get impatient if you don't speak Mandarin or other Chinese dialects. No such thing as 'HI' or any other pleasantry, its just make up your mind and show me the CASH.
