Cycling the Great Victorian Rail Trail with Tour de Vines 4 day Guided Tour was such a fantastic joyful experience for so many reasons.
-Beforehand I had wondered if, as a ‘60 something’ with a few ‘health issues’ I would safely survive the unknowns riding along the old railway corridor from Mansfield to Tallarook? Would I manage the large hired ebike and whether the trail surfaces ( with a few damp and rutted sections), the inclines and curves would buck me off and bite me ? But Tour de Vines found me the perfectly comfy ebike with plenty of power when asked for with the long gradual inclines. Padded cycle pants are a must to bring with you though as is some sunscreen.
-I wondered also if our accomodation would deliver a good nights sleep and if the others in our group would make for a happy homogenous mix?
Gloriously Tour de Vines delivered above and beyond!!
The many personal and scenic highlights included cruising comfortably through the 160 odd kms by adopting the ‘no pressure, be safe, enjoy the journey and stay towards the back of the group’ technique , knowing our Guide Damian and my cycling companions would be there for me if needed.
But best of all was seeing how our little group of strangers of varied ages , abilities and life journeys melded smoothly into great cycling buddies looking out for and caring for each other on the trail and during our excellent meals, sharing lots of laughs and memories to last a lifetime together.
Want to know ‘The Secret’ to trips like this?
Bring your good humour, expect and enjoy the unexpected. Inhale frequently the ‘serenity’ ( Bonnie Doon was a highlight in so many ways), the quirky sweetness of the villages and don’t miss learning from unique history and suck in all the stunning scenery this section of Victoria offers and leave your stresses at home. You will love every bit of this tour!
Congratulations and a big Thankyou to Damian, Michael and all the team, this is a highly recommended multi day guided trip for many abilities. Long wonderful days, great meals, good beds and so much fun.
Congratulations also must go to all those that have helped make the Great Victorian Rail Trail a world class attraction and to the outstanding hospitality staff at the hotels, restaurants and accommodation we met along the way, kudos to Victoria!
