Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I found the lighting really poor at the entrance so that I could barely see the paintings or descriptions. The rest of the space was ok. I liked the miniature street with stores, but did not like the 'crowd' sound effect. It did nothing for creating an atmosphere, as it sounded like a recording from any modern day street crowd, and I just found it really annoying. I was disappointed there was not more about the gold rush era.

I loved the replica 1860s gold rush shops and street, it was fantastic. I felt like I was back in the 1860s where there were no telephones, tv or internet, and only horses for transport. And for such a small entry fee, it was way better than over priced tourist attractions like sovereign hill. This is a must do if you’re in Beechworth.

Great regional museum with lots of historical artifacts and stories. The displays were well grouped and of great interest. Really enjoyed the sports memorabilia, the Ned Kelly section and the Chinese influence on the gold rush era.

We never go to rhe Alpine region without visiting Beechworth. There is so much to do and see there. This time after enjoying a Beechworth Bakery Beesting (indescribably good!) we went to the Bourke museum. We were really impressed, especially with the way displays are explained in large text, readable so easily by anyone who is having to stand back. A relaxed, enjoyable and interesting museum, which is continuing to grow.

Really interesting facts about the town during the gold rush. Great displays and photographs. Lots of bird displays. Some information on Burke & Wills but not an excessive amount. It would have been interesting to see more about their travels.

One of the oldest museums in Australia.
It's small-ish housed in a historical building, well laid out and
and easy to get around. Takes about 1-2 hours and well worth
the visit.

Several display areas of artefacts and memorabilia taking in the history of Beechworth. Highlight was the recreated street from historic times with many shopfronts with artefacts from the past complete with background sounds replicating the hustle and bustle of the time. You feel like you have been transported back in time. Well done.

Good museum, helpful staff, plus kids get involved with a 'Look and Find' task. Great time spent when it's too hot outside.

We have been to a few museums in our time but this is one of the best regional museums we have visited. From the tongue in cheek exhibition on Ned Kelly the movie where you can learn how to play a record player to the street reconstruction. Well done to all involved
