Neighbourhood: Double Bay
Located in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, Double Bay is a one of the city's most beautiful harbour neighbourhoods. Designer boutiques provide a decadent shopping experience and dress some of the most beautiful people in Sydney. Sit down at one of the open air cafes for a latte or a meal and enjoy the people-watching. Double Bay was once an exclusive enclave for an older, elite population, but new restaurants, late night bars, hotels and cafés are attracting a younger, vibrant mix, making Double Bay the place to be on the harbour.

Murray Rose Pool is frequently described as the best ocean pool in Sydney. It’s certainly up there.
It is a very large, 90m long harbour pool with a shark net and boardwalk that runs right around the edges. At any time of the day, you’ll see kids launching themselves from here into the water.
The other fun feature are the floating pontoons.
There’s so much to like about this pool. The sandy area is narrow but its big enough for kids to play on and behind that is a grassy slope and several shady trees which is a perfect spot for spreading a blanket out or sunbathing.
Entry is free and there are good facilities, including change rooms, showers and a cafe, but no lifeguards.
The best thing about Murray Rose Pool has to be its prime location, right on Sydney harbour.
There are only two hardships. One is the limited parking around the area and the other is the access which is via a long, steep set of stairs beside Redleaf House. Going down is tolerable, coming back up especially with small children and bags is a slog.
Confusingly for tourists, this is sometimes still referred to as the Redleaf Pool, even though it was renamed after the famous Australian gold medallist swimmer over 10 years ago.

this pool is shark proofed and in a beautiful location. The easiest way to it are through the grounds of Woollahra Council in New South Head Road Double Bay. Only problem is very limited nearby parking. Also a delightful and good value cafe overlooks the pool

Hi everyone - I'm a local resident and tired of reminding visitors to this part of the world 'smoking is prohibited' anywhere on the beach. There are people who leave their butts and rubbish behind. This is unique place and we pay significant council fees to keep it maintained. If you don't want to abide by these rules then stay way. Today I was surrounded by smokers on the grass and on the sand. Many didn't care about discomfort brought to families and children. I've scored this low so you will read this entry. This place was a quiet haven before social media destroyed it.

Of course it’s much better when the sun is shining but this pool is such a delightful place to visit with its fabulous harbour views. Swim if you’re game to during winter. Not for me but others love cold water. But do visit

Close to Double Bay, even an easy walk from Kings Cross or short bus trip from the city, yet this is a peaceful bay below the council office and is great for looking out at the centre of the harbour, maybe even watching the seaplanes coming in to land. The sand is nice (although not a lot of it at high tide) and the swimming area is good - quite large with two pontoons and a raised walkway that's good for jumping off. Gets crowded in the middle of the day on weekends but mornings and weekdays are excellent. The cafe is ordinary but is good for the views.

The pool is actually in the sea, a board walk is built on top of the shark fence. Terraced sun trap. Clean toilets and showers on the top terrace next to a high quality cafe. Worth the walk. Only really busy at the weekends.

There are many harbor pools which offer better water conditions than Redleaf, but they aren't always netted. Two pools which should be kept open for longer are Nielsen Park and Parsley Bay. But for some reason Woollahra Council closes them a couple of months before the water temperature drops. Something really should be done about that. The thing is the water temperature in Sydney harbor lags the ambient temperature. But Redleaf (now Boy Charlton) offers year round swimming. So in that respect it is appealing. The less appealing aspect is that it doesn't wash out as well due to its position so it's not always as clean as other spots and sometimes you can taste the fuel from the nearby moored boats.
But it is a lovely place in the trees and with a sandy beach below the council chambers and the nice coffee shop and adjacent to the beautiful Blackburn Gardens and Seven Shillings Beach.
And because the New South Head highway rushes past above, so many people don't know it's there.

Great beach here on Double Bay. It's:
- shark proof
- has free parking at the municipal chambers above the beach
- has a nice cafe at the beach
- there are many trees right on the beach
- nice golden sand beach
- good for watching the fireworks on harbour on NYE
Well worth a visit!

What a gorgeous harbour pool, for those that are allergic to chlorine and cannot swim in a regular pool, I think this is a alternative you will be pleased with!!
The pool is separated from the ocean by a shark fence and has many yatchs parked about.
Gorgeous, clean, family friendly and doesn't have many of those posers walking about!
It has limited parking, but I live nearby so haven't had to deal with this much, there are plenty of buses 323, 324, 325, 326 that stop you practically 10m from it too.
Worth a visit on a Sydney Summer weekend, Enjoy!
