About
A small family-run business, Sydney Harbour Kayaks has been renting and selling kayaks, teaching kayaking and guiding tours on Middle Harbour from The Spit since 1991. We’re here to guide, instruct and inspire you and we are totally passionate about what we do! We take great pride in ensuring you have a wonderful paddling experience. Safety and customer satisfaction are of the highest concern for us. Our primary location is at The Spit Bridge, Mosman, in beautiful Middle Harbour, but our deluxe kayak tours also operate in Sydney’s main harbour from The Australian National Maritime Museum at Darling Harbour (with whom we have a partnership). We are proud Gold winners of the NSW Tourism Awards Tourism Retail & Hire Services category for 2021, Highly Commended Award in the Australian Tourism Awards for 2021 and recipients of a Trip Advisor Hall of Fame winner and Certificate of Excellence for consistently scoring excellent reviews.

We did the Sydney Solstice Moonlight experience from 8-10pm and was truly exceptional. The logistics and process of getting ready and into the water was seamless and then the tour was informative and just all around sensory overload. The 8-10pm was definitely ideal and was on the tail end of the public holiday long weekend but the wind was calm and water slick as oil. What I found most interesting was getting close up and personal with some of the docked ships and seeing things like the Ferris wheel and convention Centre as well as the city scales from a different perspective (from the water).

Let alone the hospitality and knowledge the guides shared it is an experience not to miss!

I took advantage of the Intro to Kayak and Kayak Safety lessons on Saturday. Ollie was an engaging instructor and was very patient. The service was very good, the check in process was smooth and efficient. They also have a range of kayaks which as I found can have an affect on how well you paddle, so having the option to switch boats was very good. I'd recommend having a go at this if you are thinking about kayaking.

There can be no better way to see the sunrise above Sydney harbour bridge and explore the harbour than on a 5am Sydney harbour kayak tour. Our guide Shannon was knowledgeable , patient and incredibly considerate of our enjoyment and safety whilst kayaking with relative novices in this busy harbour . The sunrise and surrounding scenery were stunning and our picnic breakfast in a little cove was beautifully prepared and a welcome break during the trip .
I would highly recommend booking with Shannon at Sydney Harbour Kayaks to anyone who fancies an exciting and different way to explore Sydney Harbour.

We’ve been meaning to hire a kayak to explore the Middle Harbour for ages. Booking the deluxe kayaks for 3 hours self-guided (cost $70), the kayaks themselves were in excellent condition. The location of the rental place is very convenient, close to Spit Bridge for exploring the beaches south to Balmoral or up passed the Spit Bridge to Middle Harbour. I highly recommend checking out Bantry Bay at Garigal National Park. Check the wind and direction before booking or deciding on your route for the day however.

My only criticism would be that the staff seemed rather transactional - no orientation provided on the kayaks or suggested routes, etc.

A group of colleagues and l are participating in an adventure challenge that involves kayaking and thought getting a lesson could be helpful. We had such a wonderful morning and found it super helpful. Our instructor Ben was full of knowledge, fun and created a great atmosphere. The lesson was really tailored for everyone's abilities and we all walked away feeling a lot more confident.

Also to note Ben handled a really tricky situation that occurred with a cafe owner in a professional manner and didn't let it affect our lesson.

My son celebrated his birthday at Sydney Harbour Kayaks with 14 friends (all aged around 10 years) and they had a brilliant time on the water doing paddle polo.

The staff were polite, safety conscious and patient.

I would highly recommend you visit this business for a picturesque, unique experience on Sydney Harbour. The paddle polo was safely tucked away from the moored boats and close to shore.

I went on the Sydney Solstice night time kayak on Thursday, June 17th. The whole experience was great. The team were very professional. From the initial greeting, through the fitting of gear (including the rudder pedals), and the guiding & comentary throughout. The views throughout were spectacular, and the platter & zero % beer are a nice little touch. To top it all off, we had the Darling Harbour fireworks display. Seeing this from on the water was great.
I hope that in the future the authorities consider extending this venture as it's agreat advertisment for what the city has to offer. Maybe through the Vivid period in August. Thank you Sydney Harbour Kayaks.

Introduction to Kayaking is an excellent programme for both beginners and those with some skills. Focus is on developing techniques by building skills in a well structured three hour lesson. The guides are extremely positive and engaged and will make your experience worthwhile. You really feel a sense of achievement and a desire to continue your kayaking around Middle Harbour

Even though I was a complete novice to start, I felt like an experienced kayaker when I finished. Our instructor Ben was excellent and it was lots of fun. The time went very quickly. I highly recommend it.

I have little experience with sit-in kayaks and wanted to build my confidence with them especially before attempting to go anywhere solo. Had a great safety course with Lars who explained everything very clearly to a group with mixed experience levels (I was definitely one of the least experienced!) Lars is a very experienced kayaker and was enthusiastic and extremely patient. There was plenty of practice in the various capsize and recovery techniques and the time flew by - I’m planning on doing this course again to keep improving. The amazing thing about this is the course was completely free and I only paid for hiring of the kayak for the 3hr lesson. I’ve hired kayaks from SHK several times before and their boats and staff are all top quality.
