A tour of the Quarantine Station (Q Station) is a great way to learn a little about the perils of the long journey to Australia and the threat of disease let alone the extended quarantine that awaited you when you arrived. I real highlight is the little engravings in the sandstone rock faces which are priceless. It is worth taking... More

A great job has been done to make the history of this unique site accessible to the public. Buses run to the station entrance every hour from Manly Esplanade. Once there you can wander on your own, take a tour or simply get the minibus down to the wharf area where most of the historic buildings are located. As you... More

We dropped into Q Station as part of a hike to North Head and weren't sure what to expect. It doesn't really cater to day visitors except those doing a pre-booked tour. However, don't let that deter you. The museum at the Visitor center near the wharf has a fascinating display on the history of the station. I recommend grabbing... More

We walked up the quarantine station from Manly - it's a bit of a hike in hot weather - though there are buses if you don't want to walk there (and don't have a car with you). We didn't go on any of the organized tours - nor (obviously) did we stay there. However it was still quite an enjoyable... More

Attended a conference in the venue which included a tour. Fascinating place with the old shower areas, the ships markers on the cliff wall and the spooky autopsy room. Great views across the harbor. Venue provided an excellent lunch.

The Q station is a hotel within the grounds of the old quarantine facility on North Head in Manly. It has a superb outlook over the harbour but in a relaxed bushland setting. It has a beautiful private beach with a local penguin population. The rooms are well appointed, fresh and clean. The only issue I found slightly disconcerting was... More

Wife and I had an overnighter at the Q Station and were blown away by the beautiful location. After a couple of quiet beers on the verandah overlooking Sydney Harbour we ate at the Boilerhouse Restaurant. The food was quite simply amazing, I had the slow cooked beef cheeks which was incredible. Do yourself a favour and try this !... More

We had heard lots about this accommodation and decided to book in . We spent the morning and lunch time at Manly beach before we checked in . Good choice as once at the Q station for us too much hustle to leave . We caught the shuttle to our room and checked in . We had bought some supplies... More

We didn't actually intend to visit here but getting lost on way to North Point we ended up at the Q Station reception. We were encouraged to visit, offered the free shuttle bus down to the site. The driver of the bus insisted we went into what had been the First Class restaurant for free tea or coffee. Said we... More

Interesting historical buildings from quarantine days. Converted cottages with large communal areas and tea and coffee stations. You can't drive in but rather take a shuttle from the gate. Nice place by the water for a sundowner or dinner. haven't tried the restaurant so can't comment on that. Room was quaint. beautiful views from North Head. Can be pricey so... More

Neighbourhood Profile
A 40-minute ferry ride from Circular Quay will take you to the famous northern beach of Manly. The beaches here are perfect for learning to surf or spending the day sun-tanning. The walk from Spit Bridge to Manly is a great way to experience Sydney Harbour Bay and the Australian bush land. Along the foreshore, there are plenty of watering holes and wine bars with excellent cuisine. There are plenty of kid-friendly restaurants as well, especially along the family-oriented areas like Shelly Beach. An excellent way to experience Manly is to rent a bike and explore the dedicated bike paths and off road trails. The North Head National Park is another must-see. Located on the southern tip of Manly, North Head National Park offers great bushwalks and panoramic views of the city.
