Top ways to experience Q Station Manly - History Experience and nearby attractions

The area

Neighbourhood: Manly
A 40-minute ferry ride from Circular Quay will take you to the famous northern beach of Manly. The beaches here are perfect for learning to surf or spending the day sun-tanning. The walk from Spit Bridge to Manly is a great way to experience Sydney Harbour Bay and the Australian bush land. Along the foreshore, there are plenty of watering holes and wine bars with excellent cuisine. There are plenty of kid-friendly restaurants as well, especially along the family-oriented areas like Shelly Beach. An excellent way to experience Manly is to rent a bike and explore the dedicated bike paths and off road trails. The North Head National Park is another must-see. Located on the southern tip of Manly, North Head National Park offers great bushwalks and panoramic views of the city.

We had been once before, had a good experience and immediately booked again for October (6 months notice). We requested and paid for one of the most expensive rooms and were told you can’t request rooms. We befriended the couple in that room & they said they were just given it. Communication on all levels from staff was nonexistent. We were there for 2 1/2 days with no hot water. We were not advised of this only to find out through experience and other guests. We complained and they said they would move us on Sunday afternoon when everyone checked out. This didn’t happen till 9 pm. We had dinner at the Boilerhouse and although ambient, the set menu of $75 for 2 courses being pasta and pana cotta is a bit rich plus wine. We paid at the restaurant that night only to be told upon checkout that we hadn’t paid and as my partner was waiting in the car they insisted he come out and show his statement on the phone. We had a late checkout and decided to sleep in. At 8.30 am we had banging on the glass door for them to make up the room. Breakfast is very basic and the mould on the ceilings is of real concern. You are not given a range of times. They give you a time to be there, otherwise you miss out. Last issue is that a lot of the balconies and ramps are quite dangerous and in need of major repairs. Rotting wood covered in outdoor carpet. I have written to them, also Accor and my Agent for feedback. I have only heard from my agent. At $620 plus $200 in their restaurant we will never return or recommend it.

I was recommended to go here by a friend and went yesterday with another friend and 15 year old daughter. It is quite difficult to get there but well worth the visit. Unfortunately we missed the bus from Manly Wharf as they are once an hour and if I could do it again I would make sure I arrived for the 11am tour.

We got an Uber which was only a 5 minute drive and confused the hotel entrance for the museum. The lady on the hotel reception was very dismissive of the museum but luckily we persisted, walked down to it and met Jake who works at the museum and spent a lot of time explaining the museum and gave us lots of really interesting information. Fantastic views of Sydney and a lovely restaurant too. You could spend hours here.

They also offer kayaking which would be good in the summer.

The ghost tours are supposed to be very good but unfortunately didn't have time for that - next time!

The tour was good, we had a good guide who showed us lots of cool things.
The tour lasted a few hours, and we got caught in traffic on the way home, hence the 4/5 star review because the surf was good and I didn't get to go out.
Anyway, the tour was decent. I learnt some cool facts about the site and what went on there.
The ghost stuff was boring, but it is what it is.
If you are paying out of pocket to go, I probably wouldn't recommend it, but if the school is paying, its a cool experience and a day off school, so pretty good.

My visit to Q Station in Sydney was a mixed experience that warrants a three-star rating. The location amidst the scenic North Head National Park provides stunning views of the Sydney Harbour. The preserved heritage buildings and guided tours offer interesting insights into the site's historical significance. Service was satisfactory, but there were occasional delays and a lack of attentiveness. The paranormal experiences fell short of expectations. Overall, Q Station offers an intriguing but inconsistent stay. I kept feeling a ghost touch me in some places!

We travelled to the Q Station for a school history excursion for our second module, overall it was a pretty alright day, the tour guide seemed pretty new but she was accompanied by a very competent guide, so we were still able to get good info. However, the food and drinks at the cafe were very expensive but the facilities were nice I guess. Good day with friends and nice scenery.

My year 11 Modern History class was taken to this site for a whole day excursion, we are located in Shellharbour so it was quite a distance to travel to and from in the day but I do feel it was worth it! We are doing the Q station as our case study when looking at "The nature of modern history" and it was fascinating to see it being used over time for different purposes. One of the tour guides took us into the autopsy room where I immediately volunteered to lift the blanket off of the "corpse." When they finished counting down and I lifted the blanket off, the guide humorously kicked a metal bucket startling the tightly crowded class of year 11's! Whilst the guides were delightful and very helpful in our historical research, the food was WAY too expensive for pre-made mostly bread sandwiches, but that is not the fault of the "history experience." Overall I recommend the history experience to anyone with a genuine passion for history as it is a well-preserved sight, acting as a relic of time.
