Neighbourhood: Manly
A 40-minute ferry ride from Circular Quay will take you to the famous northern beach of Manly. The beaches here are perfect for learning to surf or spending the day sun-tanning. The walk from Spit Bridge to Manly is a great way to experience Sydney Harbour Bay and the Australian bush land. Along the foreshore, there are plenty of watering holes and wine bars with excellent cuisine. There are plenty of kid-friendly restaurants as well, especially along the family-oriented areas like Shelly Beach. An excellent way to experience Manly is to rent a bike and explore the dedicated bike paths and off road trails. The North Head National Park is another must-see. Located on the southern tip of Manly, North Head National Park offers great bushwalks and panoramic views of the city.

Located on the Corso, Manly, St Matthew’s is an Anglican Church. This is the oldest church in the area, with a history dating back over 150 years. Constructed from red brick, this church has a spire some 75 feet tall.

St Matthew's Anglican Church dates back to 1863, but the present brick English Gothic Revival church was built in 1930.

St Matthew's is currently involved in a development controversy. It owns the adjacent land on which were housed a row of Manly's historic shops. The church has knocked them down and is in the process of developing the site, which has not please many locals.

Among other complaints, some residents claim the development will be too high and will block their views, which they have enjoyed for decades.

Always make a detour if see an open old, magnificent stone.
Not disappointed & enjoyed some time inside for quiet reflection & architectural savouring.
A senior member lady made for friendly, welcoming chat as near leaving.
Would like to return sometime for worship service.

This historic church located on the Manly Corso and dates back to 1863.

When we visited it was still a functioning church with baracades and work is currently underway for a $10 million redevelopment.

This has caused some issues in the community in relation to the redevelopment proposal being too tall, blocking views as well as perceived noise issued.

Whilst the retail stores attached have been demolished the historic façade still remains.

So the church currently doesn't look great.

Though its not my type of church for a normal Sunday, we come every year for the Christmas Carol Concert. The amateur play is up and down over the years but always cute to see the local children taking part. Real camels coming down the Corso and they have a farm animal exhibit outside too

Thoroughly enjoyed this informative tour . Admired the beautiful stained glass windows. Even discovered on given in memory of a cousin . Marvelled at the stones from significant churches around the world and other historical items. Tour lasted about half an hour followed by a brief organ recital featuring well known sacred music.

Once a month St Matthews hosts a tour of the history behind the church building and its congregation. Today I went along, and found it to be highly engaging! I especially enjoyed the anecdotes and character the guide put in.

30 minutes long, dates and details can be found on church website.

Walking along the Corso on a weekday from Manly Cove to Manly Beach, we were enticed into St Matthew's by lovely organ music wafting through the door.

A lovely church, with beautiful stained glass windows, and a friendly greeting from a member of the congregation.

I went to St Matt's Sunday night 24/4/23 service today at 6:30pm. The worship music is always excellent Mr Dave who sings is one of the best worship singers I have ever heard.
The Christmas service is a yearly highlight for me the worship music is excellent.
I didn't like the fact that St Matt's Anglican are mixing religion and politics. It's clear from the preacher and the minister that they are trying to influence a Yes vote for the voice. While I personally haven't decided on a position yet.
I don't go to church to be influenced one way or another. Leave politics out of Christianity please. Putting the guilts on the congregation about God and Jesus are a Yes for the voice.
It's quite disheartening that they are trying to influence a political Yes campaign.
I nearly walked out but decided to stay and listen it's a pity they are pushing this position on the youth. I suggest keeping night church about worshipping God through the bible, prayer, worship music and fellowship.
I probably won't be going back after hearing the preacher from Bush Church Aid and the minister follow up in support of this political message. Church should keep out of political matters and explicitly taking a position and trying to influence the congregation it's a big NO NO!!!
While it wasn't explicitly said vote yes.
The tone and content of the preacher and minister message it's so obvious what they are trying to do influence a Yes Vote for the voice
Politics and religion do not mix especially in Church. Thanks for listening to my review.
