Neighbourhood: Balmain
Take the ferry to the inner west suburb of Balmain and be enchanted with this picturesque and eclectic waterside area. A stroll down Darling Street will take you on a tour of coffee shops, boutique delicatessens and shops offering wholefood products and organic cuisines. Yoga studios abound, and live music emanates from the hotels at night. As the place where the Australian Labor Party formed in 1891, Balmain has commonly been known for its “working class culture”. It has evolved into a health-conscious heaven with a laid back attitude, offering one of the most vibrant food and bar scenes in Sydney.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This park slopes down to the harbour with views across the water to Cockatoo Island. There are plenty of seats, a band rotunda, childrens playground and toilets. Another attraction is the Dawn Frazer Baths. Parking is easy round the park with plenty of unrestricted space.

Pretty quiet for a Sydney park. Obviously it less know than the other big parks. Cute little beach at the bottom of the hill. Wish they would clean up the public toilets. They were beyond gross.

A delightful park that runs to the cliff edge. Looking towards the water, it's a pleasant place to stop and take in nature.

We found this park by accident and ended up spending the afternoon there. Secluded at the end of cul de sac with a beautiful views over the harbour and several picnic spots. Ancient old trees and interesting information plaques scattered throughout the park acknowledging the first nation people and their life in the area. You can get there by ferry as there is a designated platform, also a free small car park if you chose to drive there.

Balmain is a gorgeous (now v popular) historic village (close to the city) which was once a working class area near the harbour. My mother grew up in East Balmain (near the wharf) - her father was a fisherman from about 1900. There’s a small park near Balmain East wharf (regular ferries from Circular Quay) but if you take the frequent bus service up the hill to the main centre of Balmain, it’s then an easy walk to the beautiful Elkington Park (see photos). The Dawn Fraser pool is there as well and I hear there is now a battle to save it...I wish the current community success as it’s an important cultural landmark of Australia. Car parking is often difficult around Balmain + driving in and out can be slow as Balmain is on a peninsula so if taking a car, try to avoid peak (rush) hours. We recommend the ferries and we mostly use East Balmain Wharf as described above but I’m aware there is a wharf closer to this site.

This is a nice waterside park running down a hill to a point with good views of the harbour and of planes landing. Even has a small beach at the bottom of the cliff, plus Dawn Fraser baths are next to it. Has toilets but they're pretty dodgy.
