Very nicely run by volunteers. Good entertainment for all the generations. Short trip through the countryside punctuated by a couple of stops to go through level crossings. The stations, cafés and shops at both ends of the journey are well presented and pleasant. Slight disappointment...More

Very nice trip with lovely view of the Welsh countryside. Interesting breakdown of our locomotive and waiting for a new gave us a demonstration of how to move and replace a locomotive. Don’t miss this opportunity to go back in time.

I visited the Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway on an unusually hot day in late May while staying in Welshpool, and while I got tired from the hot weather, I didn't regret going out that day because of how much I enjoyed riding the railway,...More

If you are in the area and need something to entertain children or train spotters for 1-2 hours then go to this railway. Free parking. Little tea room. Traditional setting and clean. Nice journey through the countryside.

Disappointed with the Santa special train. The train journey itself was fine but the Santa costume worn by the 'Santa' looked like it came from Poundland and the 'Elfs' were just wearing Christmas jumpers. The gifts given to my young daughters were just wrapped in...More

I'm very sorry that Richard and his family didn't enjoy our Santa Special train, as the overwhelming majority of families who visit are very pleased with it. Santa's costume was a replica of a Victorian Father Christmas frockcoat and certainly didn't come from Poundland. On...More

Thanks for the inquiry. Depending on when you travel, the train you arrive on will pause for between 40 minutes and an hour before returning to Welshpool. But all our tickets are rovers, so you are welcome to stay longer... More
