About
The Edge Motor Museum, Memphis’ only auto museum, highlights the rise and fall of the American sports car from “postwar to ‘74” in an exhibit called American Speed. Located just 600 feet west of Sun Studio, the museum is a short 2 minute walk down the street and features cars from the same era(s) that Sun highlights so well on their tours.

- CMD48Buffalo, New York167 contributionsBeautifully laid out with a great guided tour by Bob WatkinsMost car museums have a lot of cars you look at and then leave.. this museum has fewer cars, but when Bob Watkins takes you around and tells you about them, you really get a good perspective on what makes each vehicle unique or interesting. He took my wife and I around the museum and was a superb host. When you visit this museum, be sure and ask for a tour from one of the guys at the front desk area, whether Bob, Richard or someone else-- this will make your experience memorable and interesting.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 October 2023
- abroadwithashleyMinneapolis, Minnesota1,724 contributionsGreat for History & CarsHyper-curated museum, but all the better for it. The entry/upper level introduction tour was extremely well done by the docent and set the museum mood in the right direction. The museum is great if you love cars, but it’s possibly better characterized as a history museum that is car themed. It’s an excellent experience and highly recommended. Even more so if you are visiting Sun Studios as well.Visited June 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 October 2023
- Cynthia DMemphis, Tennessee1,035 contributionsEdge is a Must See in MemphisWe visited the Edge Museum a few days ago and were very impressed. We spent 2 hours admiring the cars and reading the history of the cars that are currently on display. If you are lucky you might meet Studebaker Bob (Watkins). Bob has a wealth of knowledge and told us many stories and interesting facts about the cars in the museum. Thank you Studebaker Bob for making our visit so memorable.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 11 October 2023
- sarahL6132UJ15 contributionsHidden Gem for Car Enthusiasts! This museum is a real hidden gem in Memphis and a must if you love fast cars! Just a short walk up the road from Sun Studios so you are able to do both on one hit. The gentleman gave us a personal tour and shared his knowledge and passion for these vehicles, every car looked like they were just out of the showroom from being tenderly restored and looked after. I highly recommend a visit to this museum!Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 8 November 2023
- Michael BColumbia, South Carolina27 contributionsRare cars on display!EXTREMELY knowledgeable host! He actually restores the vehicles if necessary. There is not a ton of cars here but the ones on display are immaculate and rare! The cars do rotate so worth repeat visits. Included a display of how tires and radios have changed over the years. Worth it even if you are only mildly interested in carsVisited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 March 2024
- AliceH6 contributionsCar EnthusiastsA must visit for the car enthusiast who loves the history of American cars from 1950’s to 1970’s. Wonderful introduction by the staff with very informative ipads detailing info on each vehicle exhibited. Inventory of vehicles shown rotate periodically. Make a visit while you are in the neighborhood. Stunning - 20 cars especially the red 1959 Cadillac!Visited April 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 10 April 2024
- Luvroadmagic3 contributionsHidden Gem in MemphisThis is a gem of a museum, the gorgeous cars and the people working there made it so much fun. The stories, history of motor vehicles intermingled with culture was so interesting. Seeing the advertisements of the times the cars were produced made the timeline come alive. We were lucky to ask questions that the staff were happy to answer about the cars. Their personal stories they shared, were the best part of our time there! Do not forget to read the stories written in the book about why you got a ticket, those were hilarious. So go have fun and support this amazing and fun museum.Visited April 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 14 April 2024

The guys were friendly as we entered and then to our surprise we got a full tour of the place. It added so much to our appreciation of the displayed cars. Fantastic tour, great cars and such friendly and helpful people. Do it!Visited April 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 6 May 2024
- bruceurbanUnited Kingdom198 contributionsWell worth a visit!Excellent collection of Classic American cars, from T Bird, Stingray to Doris Days’ convertible with upholstery made from Python skin. The gentleman running the museum kindly accompanied us and was very knowledgeable (he also has among his collection 3 Healy 3000’s!). Well worth a visit and is very close to Sun Studios.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 May 2024
- AnnaMinneapolis, Minnesota6 contributionsMust see for American car fansThis museum is run by true caretakers of American classic cars! Bob gave us an incredible tour outlining the restoration process on each car. The museum changes the cars they have on display frequently so it is a new journey into American history every time. I would pay twice the entrance fee for the value of the experience we had on our tour. I cannot overstate enough the high quality of these restorations and the love of cars that has gone into this place. Got an extra hour in Memphis? Head to Edge then grab a coffee at French Truck on your way out. 20/10 experience!Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 15 August 2024

We got a nearly private tour from the director of the museum, including his personal stories of driving and maintaining the cars on display. He’s a great storyteller and the cars are in immaculate condition. Totally worth walking down from Sun Studio after a tour there!

A surprising gem of a museum; an unexpected find. Bob, our tour guide, personally showed us around the museum with a story about each car. His obvious passion for these cars is evident in each story and experience. The collection and progression of cars through time gave a taste of what drivers and companies found important. This is a place to revisit as the collection always changes and evolves. Whether you are a classic car fan or not, this is a great place to visit.

My partner and I have just returned from a holiday of a lifetime where we visited three states, countless well known attractions and experiences.....and THIS is what we both enjoyed the most! Firstly, you don't have to be a massive motor fan to love this museum; the exceptional standard of this collection is breath taking for any visitor. The love, attention and passion taken in bringing this museum to life is inspiring and we genuinely could've stayed there indefinitely! We were fortunate enough to meet Bob and his depth of knowledge and pride in this collection was, for us, what made our visit so special. For me personally, having just dragged my partner around Graceland, seeing Bob take the time to engage and share with him this very unique collection, made me so happy. This museum is so good that we planned to return the following day but, unfortunately, got stuck on the other side of Memphis when we couldn't get an UBER back! We still regret that now but, someday, we hope to return. Don't miss out on this unique, dazzling and fascinating museum. It may be small but it certainly packs a supercharged punch!

I purposely did not read review before going to the museum because i did not want to spoil the surprise.
What an amazing museum. I have been to a number of motor museums in multiple countries and can truly say this is in the top 5 as one of the best. So see nearly 100 years of car history sitting together is just awesome. From the last year you colour get a Ford Model T in a colour other than black to the number 6 Tesla Roadster
Then there is the simply stunning Muntz Jet - a car i had never heard of.
The entry price of $10 is just as amazing, real value for money.
The staff were so friendly and knowledgeable, willing to answer any questions. I had a great conversation about how the meaning and design of Sports Cars differs all over the world.
Also i found out that the cars on display do regularly change, making this an awesome place to visit every time you are in town.
A fantastic experience wether you are a family, couple or a car enthusiast. But you really do not need to be a enthusiast to enjoy this wonderful museum

The cars on display do indeed rotate within the "American Speed" theme as it overlaps with some many of the other attractions here in Memphis. Thank you for leaving a review.

As someone who isn't into cars, I have to say I really enjoyed this museum. Went with my partner who loves cars and we were greeted by staff member Richard.
Richard was so friendly, smiling and polite. He gave us in depth summaries of many of the vehicles present and was extremely knowledgeable. You can also tell that he absolutely loves his job.
The museum is small with around 20 cars to look at so you don't need more than an hour to look around.
For a quick stop in to see a bit of history with pristine condition cars that are still in usable condition, I'd highly suggest this museum.

This is an exceptional museum of sports cars. Some foreign, mostly American. The spotless and unbelievably reconditioned cars are a once-in-lifetime opportunity to see cars that are no longer made and are truly rare. Knowledgeable guides and attendants can provide unique insights into the history of each of the cars on display. This is a must see museum if you are in Memphis!

Visiting the Edge Motor Museum was such a wonderful experience. Bob was a great and helpful guide. He could answer any question I had and usually added a story about the cars. I especially loved seeing the car that Doris Day drove originally, since she was a star from my era. I also liked hearing about the Ike Turner car and the song about it. The ipad pictures and stories made the experience come to life. I was not a car buff when I came into the museum, but I am looking forward to bringing my friends from Little Rock to see the museum. I would recommend it to everyone. Thank you, Bob, for being a wonderful guide.
