Sun Studio - The place where an 18 year old Elvis Presley recorded his first song.

It’s well-known in the music industry as "The Birthplace of Rock 'N' Roll" and the most famous recording studio in the world. Opened by rock pioneer Sam Phillips in 1950, this national Historic Landmark is where superstar musicians like Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, B.B. King, Howlin' Wolf, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison and countless others started their recording careers.

Today, Sun Studio still serves as a recording studio in the evenings while hosting public tours during the daytime hours.

What an experience, a little wary when we first arrived as it appeared small. The tour guide was fun and very passionate about sun studios, very informative and we learned a lot. Worth every penny and more and a must see.

The building is small, but FULL of music history. Even if you are not a big Blues or Rock-n roll fan, you will enjoy this tour. The tour guides make it great. It is well worth the hour or two of your time. Free parking is directly behind the building. Zack was our outstanding guide, but they are all great.

This blew me away. I'm a bit of a Johnny Cash fan to start with so this was always going to be on the list of things to do while in memphis. The place is small and easy to fit in to a busy schedule - courtesy buses from graceland or the rock and soul museum make this so easy... More

Sam Phillips sold Elvis's contract to RCA for 35K to avoid bankruptcy. The studio history covers Elvis, Roy Orbison, Carl Perkins, Gerry Lee Lewis and many other stars of country, rock and gospel music.

Had a wonderful tour of the Sun Studio which has had many of super stars including Elvis pass through it doors. It is a little hole in the wall place but packed with history. Don't miss it.

If you are a fan of the early rock and roll and its history this is the place to go. The tour consists of only two rooms but what a story they tell. Our guide Jayson was fantastic bringing you back in time. You could feel the spirit of the music in that little studio.

Elvis, Jerry Lee, Carl, and Johnny, or at least their memory draw a lot of folks to this little hole in the wall called Sun Studios. You gotta see it even if it takes only a few minutes to do so. You have heard about it, you need to see it.

Sun studio was good value and if you book it at Graceland you get some money off. Free bus goes from Graceland and back to make it super convenient to visit. The tour guide was great, she was very knowledgeable but like every tour guide in America, a bit of a comedian too. The tour itself starts off with some... More

We went as a family, thinking this was for my husband's benefit. But, we all enjoyed the history and seeing an actual music studio. I learned a lot about music hi sorry and my eyes were opened to how music crossed racial lines in a time where that was not very common. Our tour guide was obviously knowledgeable and interested...
