- Tony CBridgend, United Kingdom37 contributionsTyndrum / Green Welly Whisky ShopAn amazing place - I always stop when passing. James and his staff always make me welcome, tasters always offered! They are extremely knowledgable real professionals. Yes, as noted below, the staff do come out from behind the counter and stay nearby - as far as I can see this is so that they are on hand to advise and discuss. The range of whiskies is interesting, and the prices are similar to other whisky specialists. If you enjoy good malts, and are passing, do stop and visit!Visited March 2024Travelled soloWritten 14 March 2024
- Karen BFEdmonton, Canada685 contributionsFun stop for shoppingUsed to be more of a motorcyclists’ stop, but now general merchandise and hiking gear, although the bikers still stop. The restaurant was closed when we got there (glad we had eaten earlier… this is pretty out of the way). But there were snacks to be had at the convenience store, and more options for gifts and souvenirs. This is not a tourist attraction, but is is a popular stop for drivers and especially bikers. They add the local color.Visited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 16 June 2024
- Arlene BStanley, Falkland Islands16 contributionsBest stop off pointGreat little stop off. Just to break up the journey. Toilet break, coffee stop and a quick look round the gift shop. Also a great place for fellow travellers that have camper vans to stop off and do some laundry. They have a small load and a big load outside but under cover. Great little rest stop to do a little shopping on groceries also as there is a convenience store to the front of the building.Visited June 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 26 June 2024

Apparently there is another shop in Tyndrum. I wish I'd known as this was so over priced and despite being big had very limited fresh food and bread. I feel they can charge what they like as no Competition. its a shame as the ability to buy food and self cater on the west Highland way is really limited and myself and my two children ended up eating out way more than we planned because of no shops. I spent £48 on buying food for 3 for tea and lunch the next day. unbelievable.

We were travelling up to Fort William and came upon the Green Welly Shop pretty much in the middle of nowhere. Great find for tourists either from overseas or enjoying a staycation. There’s everything from Showers to washing machines, a well-stocked shop with basic food, coffee and microwave, toilets and a cafe. The staff were chatty and helpful. Well done to these entrepreneurs. A real service to the tourist industry

I made the mistake of resupplying here when walking the west highland way, and was charged £16 for goods that would usually cost less than half of that. I discovered a few minutes later that just down the road there is a convenience store where I could have bought the items much more cheaply. I realise that tourist locations will always charge more, but double the price seems a bit much
If you are looking for overpriced Scottish souvenirs then this is probably the place for you. And if you are running out of petrol then you can fill up here for a premium price, otherwise go a little further up the road and you'll find a Keystore, convenience store which is much much cheaper.

Good for a toilet stop on way up to the Highlands. We also stopped for something to eat and was extremely disappointed in the food both in choice and cost. I ordered a fruit scone and had to pay extra for butter (20p per butter) and jam (30p per jam), feel this is a rip off and they should adjust their prices to include the butter and jam (no-one eats a dry scone).

Tasteless scones, bargain postcards! I am a cheese scone fan. But they need to taste of cheese and sadly the ones here are pretty tasteless. Ok for a stop but nothing special, other than the bargain 50p postcards and the decent loos.

Me and my mates visited the Green Welly Stop to buy cooking gas and other things needed for hiking. We flew in, so we couldn’t have gas on the airplane. They didn’t have gas for our standard Trangia cooking gear - we needed gas bottles with thread and they only had that blue «campinggaz» with click-on system. With no other shops nearby to have the gas we needed, our cooking gear was useless. So the shop-manager adviced us to buy spirit and and fuel container. They only had white spirit and he assured us it would work. It didn’t, of course, it’s not meant for that. So we had a hard time heating up the spirit every day; it made a lot of smoke and it ruined our Trangia pots and pan, burning off the teflon.
To sum it up: Absolutely no help from a shop where I suppose thousands of hikers on West Highland Way visit every year.

We had been looking fwd to a visit here as my husband grew up in the Highlands and has very fond memories of the place. He tells me it was always packed - it was all but empty today.
After walking the WHW for 6 plus hours we went for a hot drink & cake. Tea from an urn that was probably made in the morning was £2.50, a scone with cream £4. The scone was tasteless and crumbled everywhere - stale and not at all worth the money. Also noted there were a lot of staff, mostly chatting to each other.
We won't be back, the Cafe down the road had a line out the door - we will go there next time.

Having visited the Green Welly a good number of times over 20 years or more, I am not sure what is happening to it?
It was at some point a great place to stop, it is now sadly little more than an expensive tourist trap. Full of over priced tatty gifts and even more expensive clothing. It appears to now be living on passing trade who are unlikely to return.
It is far from clean and starting to look tired, it could do with refurbishment and a really good makeover. Who thought of the school dinners lay out of the restaurant was a good idea needs to be sacked.
The staff currently look disinterested, bored and only there as they have to be. Those that were not tucked behind the counter chatting among themselves ignoring all around them that is.
The food is now lacking in any presentation, bland, not well cooked and downright expensive for what it is.
As I said we have stopped her on a number of occasions, sadly however we see no reason to make any effort to do so again at this time.
Stop by all means, but be prepared to pay for the privilege and leave disappointed.
Come on Green Welly, sort your life out!

Hi is there parking for caravans please
Written 5 September 2019
there is a very large parking area next to the restaurant that would easily take a car and caravan to park up, large coaches regularly stop here as well so its very roomy for parking.

Do they carry good outdoor rainwear? If so what is the price range?
Written 27 July 2016
Yes, but it is expensive.I don't remember the price range. But if you are wet on the trail, it is worth the money! We lucked into blue skies for our entire walk in May! Lucky us.
