****Advisory note for visitors to the are regarding parking****
Visited the area and whilst the village is pretty and the views were lovely the visit was marred by a parking firm called Parking Eye, stinging us for a £100 parking fine on the central car park just outside the village.
The instructions are not clear, they appear to infer that the automatic number plate recognition picked up your vehicle reg on entry to the car park and you then paid on departure typing in your vehicle number, we actually took 5 minutes to read the instructions to ensure we complied.
On return to the car park we went to the machine popped our vehicle registration in and were charged £1 for 1 hour 20min, we paid by card and 1 week later a £100 fine in the post!
We have appealed however I suspect the wording will have a different interpretation by this parking firm, that’s how they get away with their cowboy antics!
We also saw an elderly couple parked nearer to the village with a parking ticket on their vehicle, I believe this is because they were in a permit holder zone.

Wouldn’t bother coming here, it was made clear more than once that the village does not like visitors. Parking is a nightmare!! Nothing is clear, the signage is ridiculous and you have to hunt to find it!
Fines being put on peoples cars when there are no clear road markings or parking restriction signs.
Get your act together council and be fair on the visitors.
The lake is beautiful, but just stop somewhere else to appreciate it, you will get a grumpy welcome and ripped off in Luss village.

Incomprehensible buzz for this place, yes the street (it is not a village of beautiful houses, but a simple street of a few houses) is pretty. All the houses have signs to keep the curious away, we even saw an ordinary car with a message in 4 languages, so that people don't sit on the car to take pictures! I don't know whether to laugh or cry, are there really people so ill-bred as to lean on other people's property and is there really a car owner who thinks his car is the 9th wonder of the world worth taking pictures of? When we arrived at the pier, we were treated to the dance of two morons on jet skis who thought they were impressing the people by doing circles and trying to get the people on the pier wet. Now that's gasoline well spent. In such a beautiful place, one expects something other than noise and pollution. The two worst used parking pounds in Scotland.

Luss pier is as fine as ever but unfortunately to get there one has to park and use local amenities which have become a total disgrace.
Firstly, parking costs £1 per hour which is steep especially if you wish to spend money at a food outlet or gift shop, neither of which is cheap.
The most disgraceful of all is that admission to the toilet is 50p payable only by contactless card. It was painful to watch elderly folks and foreign visitors who did not have contactless facility. Is Luss aware that not all cards are contactless???
To add insult to injury the toilets were dirty and I would suggest a Health and Safety hazard.
We have often called in at Luss on way past but in future we wiill continue to Balloch where we will have more choice for our money.
This place is a blight on the shores of a beautiful Loch.

Unfortunately the pier was barricaded shut with no access upon our visit, but even so the shore beside it was thronged with people enjoying the unseasonable glorious 🌞 weather. The views over to Ben Lomond , 3196 ft above sea level , are amazing 🤩. In fact the scenery all around here is wonderful, and the village is charmingly quaint. It’s perfectly understandable why it’s been used as a backdrop for “Take the High Road” and other films & programmes.

Had a week in Argyll and Bute. The afternoon trip on the bus boat was superb. Staff were really helpful (we had 5 dogs) and, even with the whole mask thing, made us feel relaxed and welcome. £15 return from Luss was treat value , and no extra charge for dogs. Inchcailoch Island was magical. Views to die for, a lovely beach (but watch out for blue-green algae which is very dangerous to dogs at this time of year), great walk and an ancient grave yard! History, scenery, a boat trip and a lovely walk. What more can you ask for? And of course Luss is very, very pretty.

We visited Luss on a cruise ship excursion which took in views of Loch Lomond as well as a few other Lochs and viewpoints in the area as part of a circular drive from Greenock.
We found Luss to be an adorable pretty village with quaint cottages and a lovely 'beach' and pier / jetty area with lovely views over Loch Lomond. The weather when we visited wasn't brilliant which actually meant it wasn't as busy as it can be (based on reports from other reviewers). It's a pretty location and I can imagine the Loch would look stunning on days with better weather. Would certainly be happy to visit again.

Went to visit the village of Luss today. It was rammed full of foul mouthed half naked swimsuit wearing teenagers. It looked, sounded and felt like I had stumbled in an 18/30 holiday in Ibiza. Shouting, hammering around on souped up jet skis, playing loud music, drinking and diving off the pier. This despite signs forbidding it all. Horrible. Bins overflowing, litter left everywhere on the beach, nearly knocked over by some of them riding their bikes through the village. Families there as well trying as best they might to have peaceful walk around what is a very pretty village. They were however fighting a loosing battle. We will not be going back.

Terrible experience. Toilet charge of 50p was extortionate and the attendant exceptionally rude and grumpy. The queue to the ladies took you past the gents where the urinal was in full view 😮. Parking machine wasn't working. Who knows if we'll get a fine for the time it took us to use the toilets. Didn't bother to try to visit the the coffee shops as initially planned. Tourist trap. Avoid at all costs.

Luss is beautiful; we had a great day jumping off pier, coffee shops, enjoying beach. However, Parking Eye Luss South Car park (not listed specifically here) have a DISHONEST, DECEITFUL system. They take a picture on entry and exit (no barrier, I didn't see camera) - BEWARE do not follow the time on your ticket, but your arrival time. I had to wait in queue 10 mins to get my ticket and was back at my car by the time on the ticket. However, I received a fine because my total time in carpark was longer than the 4 hours I paid for. I have appealed and not yet heard back yet.
Use the visitor centre carpark as they are more clear and do not use this deceitful system that south carpark has. Also don't park in village streets as that is local permit only.

Hi, We are thinking of visitng Loch Lomond in August and possibly swimming in Luss.
1. Are there shallow spots which are relatively safe to swim in?
2. Where do people get changed and shower?

I am interested in placing a plaque on the pier for my Mother, do you know if you need permission before hand.

It would probably be worth asking the local council, and they will advise you further.

Does anyone know what parking machines are like at the toilets. Is it pay and display with tickets or do you pay and enter your registration number
Written 5 July 2018
It's pay and display. You can also park on the street for free
Written 6 July 2018
Is there parking available near the Pier?
Written 6 May 2017
Yes there is a parking area just past the road to the pier( coming from Glasgow direction )that you can walk through to the few shops and pier and also you can park in the road leading down to the pier but those spaces fill up quickly. We parked in the parking area and it was a Sunday the charge was £1 for 24 hrs. Hope this helps.
