£3.50 for access to the museum and a guided walk through the graveyard. Jason was knowledgeable and explained the history of the town and the different clans of Scotland.

Fantastic place you need to visit

We called in here just as it was closing. The guy in charge (sorry I didn’t get his name) kept the place open for us and took us around. It was fascinating with some great exhibits and tales behind them. From Viking graves to fossils and all sorts in between

We were wandering around Tain, when we saw this medieval church and accompanying graveyard! The church was beautiful and the graves were fascinating! The curator came out to explain some of the grave markings and show us the Pictish stone in the church yard. Very Interesting! We greatly enjoyed visiting there!

Fantastic museum

I visited with my mother and kids. Jason from the museum was extremely enthusiastic and a fabulous host showing us various family related stuff in the churchyard. Great little museum, not a huge amount of artefacts but really well presented and a good range of militarism and local silver

The museum is part of a larger thing.

Although the actual museum is on the small side, it has several interesting exhibits. More to the point, along with the old Kirk and another exhibition area it forms the larger entity - Tain Through Time, and it is all well worth seeing.

A great experience

Visited Museum with a small group of friends. Staff were very friendly, extremely knowledgeable and helpful.
Our guide was brilliant, bringing the history of the Church and the Pilgrimages to life in a lively but extremely informative way. Covered all aspects of the site's history and gave one of the most lucid accounts of the Reformation in Scotland and subsequent schisms and re-alignments of Protestant Churches that I have heard.
The high points of my visit were the medieval church interior, the Museum's collection of Tain Silver and the Viking-type graves in the graveyard.
We spent over two and a half hours there and intend going back to spend more time in the Tain Trough Time Gallery which deserves a closer inspection than time allowed that day.
Would thoroughly recommend this experience to any visitors to Easter Ross and taken together with the St Duties Hotel's lunchtime menu this could be an excellent day out for visitors from the Cruise Liners at Invergordon. A great introduction to Scottish History.

Splendid

One of the best museums to be found in the highlands. The history of Tain silver is fascinating in itself, and there is so much more. Only a small base but so much information gathered by the volunteers and manager. Remember to check out the pilgrimage for more history.
