I have been as high, on my motor bike, as 13000ft up in the Alps this is better. I've been here in rain, sunshine and mist, it needs to be a clear day to appreciate the views.
Also not suitable for motor homes, the road...More
Very good road for car enthusiasts and street racers, also good for motorbike fans. Very twisty roads, roads are fairly narrow, enough space for one car, there are passing points. May need cars with larger engines as very steep inclines. Nice spots to take photos,...More
The courtesy of the majority of drivers on this single track road is terrific, only a few selfish people (usually from South of the Border judging by the number plates) make it difficult, but just slip into the passing places and be courteous and you'll...More
Nothing like as bad as some suggest - unless you're a campervan which should just stay away.... but I could say that for most Highland roads which choke to a halt with them all Summer!

Sheildaig is lovely and has a good pub and restaurant. Applecross is lovely too but I think its not a good base, unless you like the hairy drive on a regular basis! We stayed in a lodge in Achintraid, just outside of Kishorn for 1 week, a few miles from Lochcarron (see Wilderness Cottages). But I would recommend staying somewhere less isolated as its nice to have facilities when the weather is bad (as it was with us last year).
