Have lived in the Highlands for over a decade now and we finally made it to Smoo Cave. It is about 2 hours drive north from Ullapool and the journey itself was a spectacular. The cave is open year round and entry to the first chamber is free. We didn't get a chance to take the boat, but definitely plan... More

One of many amazingly stunning features of the North Coast and area surrounding Durness... Smoo Cave is well worth a visit. A cracking naural feature, when you've made the descent from the car park you enter the cave through a very wide, open entrance beyond which is a contained but fascinating other world ripe for exploring! If you arrive at... More

Visited Smoo Cave whilst touring NV500. It was 4pm so missed the wee boat tour of the cave. The guy had packed up for the day. The cave entrance and waterfall was fab to see and got some super photos but it had nothing on Fingal's cave! Worth going though and would recommend if you are passing by.

Go to Smoo Cave everyone said, you'll enjoy it they said. I went. It was ok. I suppose visiting anywhere in Scotland is difficult at the end of Winter. Smoo cave not excluded. The toilets at the top were still locked and even the Radar key locked disabled loo had been used a gazillion times without flushing water. There are... More

We were doing the Scotland 500, and Smoo Caves was one of the highlights. Travelling at the end of March, there was hardly anyone else there. There are loads of steps down to the cave and you can get into the first chamber free. There is a boat tour which goes deeper into the cave, but not until April. Inside... More

The cave is right next to the road - after a 2 min walk down the stairs you enter the cave. It's only the one cave and there is a waterfall at the back - it is a beauty to see but don't worry if you miss it. After walking across the covered walkway there is a small platform on... More

Trek down to the wee Smoo cave and take a small boat trip inside to see the rock formations and the waterfall. Super cheap entry cost which all goes towards further excavation of the caves. Worth a stop!

Beautiful scenery and nice easy walk down to cave. Couldn't go inside as it was off-peak season but it looked interesting.
