The Pier Arts Centre in Orkney was established in 1979 to provide a home for an important collection of British fine art donated by Margaret Gardiner (1904 - 2005). Alongside the permanent collection The Pier Arts Centre curates a year round programme of temporary exhibitions and events for the education and enjoyment of the general public.

Don't be put off by thinking "art" is not for you. This is a treat. Historically interesting as well as housing a great art collection and exhibiting contemporary art too.

This is a wonderful building which accommodates a wide range of artworks. A fantastic resource for Stromness.

Three floors of gallery space, filled with the work of artists, modern, recent and not so modern. The short art film Colour Poems (12 minutes) by Margaret Tait was captivating and the work by Barbara Hepworth was beautiful and incredible to view from different angles...More

Unfortunately we visited on change over week but enjoyed a look at the permanent collection which is definitely for the Modern contemporary Art lover. Shop disappointing and no cafe. Good hang and lovely site sensitively arranged
