The sheer age of this remnant of a stone circle is mind boggling enough, but the sheer beauty of the stones and their location takes your breath away. There is nowhere quite like it. The place tends to get busy with bus loads of tourists...More

Imagine the effort to set these stones and other earthworks in a time before mechanisms. Part of the overall complex with Maeshow, Ness of Brodgar and ring of Brodgar. See them all and wonder.

Close by to the other historic world heritage sites. You park on the roadway nearby. Not as many stones here as at Ring of Brodgar but you can get right up to them.

Even with the guide providing an explanation and photographic representations of how the standing stones are probably pre-pyramids and over 5,000 years old, most all other information is a little more what archaeologists think. In all likelihood it was a ring as well, but with...More

We just drove past this on the way to the Ring of Brodgar. Not much more to see than what you can see in a drive-by to include one stone seemingly guarding the road.

Four us traveled together and after our day long tour with a private guide I asked what was each person’s favorite site. I said the live archaeological dig, the Ness Brodgar; one said the Ring of Brodgar; one said Skara Brae, and one of us...More

About a mile I'd say! But beware there's no sidewalk...and it does get busy in the Summer
