    Absolutely amazing
We loved it here - so fascinating and quite a lot to explore. There's an entry fee but it's so worth it - we actually preferred it here to Skara Brae (plus there are a lot less people!). We took our dogs with us and they were made very welcome, they had a good fuss from the man in the visitor centre and we were able to take them with us to look at the small exhibition.

    Very atmospheric
Actually better than Skara Brae, for two main reasons. Firstly it is less popular and the lack of hordes of people allows you to soak up the atmosphere of the place better. Secondly, you can actually walk within the ruins to give an occupant's eye view of the way they lived. Oh, and there was a beautiful and very friendly cat there the day we visited so that made it a six star attraction!

Magical but needs to provide toilets
This is really well presented iron age broch with village. Added to that is the Picture village. The Broch is double walled and is surrounded by two ditches. The entry is poor as people could potentially sneak in without paying and there are NO toilets, which when there is a shop and display is very disappointing. Also you can get bus tours but be patient as they leave quickly. It is better with less people.

A Neolithic pile of stones on a cliffs edge.... but so much more. A dog friendly site.
Brochs are stone age structures that might have been defensive or domestic, but what they are is amazing. A huge building project in un-mortared stone. This one is fascinating because it is surrounded by other smaller buildings and the defensive ditches and walls. The site and , small, visitor centre is dog friendly. The visitor centre has some interesting artifacts , a model reconstruction and a great 'view through the keyhole'! Outside , from the car park, we watched seals and gannets diving for fish.

We visited this impressive site within the first few days of our trip to Orkney. We booked a guided tour and can't remember visiting a historic site and feeling quite so engaged and 'transported' in time! Our guide, Corwen, lead a tour of the Broch, explained the surroundings and brought the place and its inhabitants through time to life. I don't remember ever being so disappointed when a history lesson ended😊 The knowledge Corwen imparted helped us to get so much more out of all the other sites we visited. Highly recommended.

Spent a few hours in the area. It was an hours walk from our caravan pitch or less then ten minutes drive. I don't know how they mustered the people to build this stricture. It had everything they needed as a community. No mortar just local stone and its still here after 2500 years .Would advise you bring wellies warm dry clothing and a picnic, It was a beautiful hot day and sunny. Still a windy place no tree's but great place for walking and would highly recommend a visit.

It's a fabulously preserved Iron Age Broch. the site guardian was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The location is wild and romantic - and we saw a hare in a nearby field! If you want to sample the varied historical monumnets on Orkney - then this Broch is a key part of your trip

It was a surprise to me when arrive and saw not just a broch but also an ancient village around the site. Very well preserved and not overly visited so I enjoyed it a lot. The day was perfect, sunny and there were also 3 seals enjoying the sun too.
There was also a very friendly cat who loved people, especially children. I think cat lives around and come to greet people and maybe get some food. :)
This site is amazing.

What a great find. Turning is off the main road at Evie School. Drive right to the end of the road. We walked from our Motorhome site in Evie School. Did not know what to expect, after our long walk, but wow wow what a find. This is history that you can tread where our ancestors trod. We spent an hour here it was fascinating. Clear marked information boards. Told every little detail. If history is your thing do not miss this little gem. Well done Orkney council for this fantastic site.

We much preferred this to the more famous Scara Brae site, and felt it had more to offer. We almost came upon it by chance, as it hadn't been highlighted in material we had been reading about the historic sites. It's in a fabulous position and you can get right up and into the different areas. A must-see site if you are visiting Orkney.
