We loved it here - so fascinating and quite a lot to explore. There's an entry fee but it's so worth it - we actually preferred it here to Skara Brae (plus there are a lot less people!). We took our dogs with us and they were made very welcome, they had a good fuss from the man in the visitor centre and we were able to take them with us to look at the small exhibition.

Actually better than Skara Brae, for two main reasons. Firstly it is less popular and the lack of hordes of people allows you to soak up the atmosphere of the place better. Secondly, you can actually walk within the ruins to give an occupant's eye view of the way they lived. Oh, and there was a beautiful and very friendly cat there the day we visited so that made it a six star attraction!

This is really well presented iron age broch with village. Added to that is the Picture village. The Broch is double walled and is surrounded by two ditches. The entry is poor as people could potentially sneak in without paying and there are NO toilets, which when there is a shop and display is very disappointing. Also you can get bus tours but be patient as they leave quickly. It is better with less people.

Brochs are stone age structures that might have been defensive or domestic, but what they are is amazing. A huge building project in un-mortared stone. This one is fascinating because it is surrounded by other smaller buildings and the defensive ditches and walls. The site and , small, visitor centre is dog friendly. The visitor centre has some interesting artifacts , a model reconstruction and a great 'view through the keyhole'! Outside , from the car park, we watched seals and gannets diving for fish.
