A short car trip from the ferry landing on Hoy, this is a must see attraction. The history and purpose of this structure and its encampment is very interesting. he views from the top of the tower are stunning!

What a view from the tower stunning! A great guided tour through the tower and the Hackness Battery with its own history and story . Well worth the stop and the fantastic ferry ride to get there . Awesome Hoy

Included in the Orkney Visitors pack it's an interesting bit of (relatively) recent history. A guided tour is included in the price by (as usual in Orkney) a very knowledgeable guide. Steep steps and ladder!

Not obvious, but a genuinely fascinating place and guided tour. Top quality all round. Not to be missed, as is the south end of Hoy. Don't just visit Lyness (excellent though the museum there is) but head south to Longhope and Hackness. You'll enjoy....

correction: google maps says you can but it will take 4hrs5mins from Kirk wall by ferry & bus.
