An interesting place to visit

We walked the grounds and then went into the house where we had a free guided tour, which was really good and informative. Worth a visit.

We were visiting Fife for a few days break and as we are NT members we look to visiting their properties. Arriving a little earlier than the house normally opens to the public we were asked if we would like a tour from the "head guide" is he could do it. Lucky us, he could and we were treated to... Beautiful gardens and house , plenty to keep children occupied indoors and out. THE quiz for children was excellent and they learned so much from the guides. Particularly enjoyed that children could play piano in room and have items they could touch.

Stopped for a hot soup which came with a lovely roll. We had a pot of tea and liked the ambience. Quick look around the gift shop which was looked after. Y a lovely lady and although we didn't purchase this visit. We will be back. Grounds, house, coffee shop and gift shop all well worth a visit. We had... More

Having not visited this area before, we did it correctly. The previous day we had visited Kellie Castle where we had learned about the Lorimers and then Hill of Tarvit with the Lorimer influence. A beautiful house but with restricted viewing times as we discovered, dependent on how many volunteers turned up! Most were really excellent but one was rather... More

Excellent day out. Beautiful house and not kept as a museum, you can touch or get close to a lot of the exhibits. The gardens are stunning and plenty of beautiful walks. The grounds are easily negotiated with a pram or kids buggy but may not be so easy with a wheelchair. The only criticism I have is the cafe... More

The day we visited the house was closed, though the gardens and grounds were open. We enjoyed a walk through the woods and a look at the gardens.

This is a National Trust for Scotland property so it is free to tour if you are members. Unlike most properties, this one is "hands on." You can walk on the rugs, take photos of everything, play the piano, even shoot some billiards. The docent we had, Mr. Fleming, was outstanding. He really made the house and the owners come... More
