Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Really interesting, the interior is well preserved considering although some of the windows have been given added protection from the wind. Externally it looks very different from the sea side to what it looks like from the village. It was a very hot day but once we had walked into the village and up to the Chapel we found ourselves quite exposed to the breezes and much cooler. The views from up by the Chapel are wonderful even on a hot and hazy day so they must be amazing on a really clear day.

Beautiful setting for this ancient chapel. It really stands out on the hilltop, with the sea as a backdrop. A pleasant stroll to the top of the hill, from which there are magnificent views of this gorgeous county. The chapel is a stunning medieval structure but is stark on the inside and not regularly used these days (so don't expect a sit down when you get there). This is an iconic landmark of the Dorset coast and well worth a visit.

Short walk to and around this chapel.
Car park just near swan inn is good starting point for the walk.
Walk through village to spar shop and turn onto path up to church.
Short walk through some houses and path then presents itself. Short uphill walk through gate leads to chapel.
Often a few people out, so not always easy to get a good photo, but worth persevering.
Very windy up on top of hill when we visited, which got worse nearer to sea you got. Some fantastic views past chapel.
Option to return to town for a coffee, or go further up south west coast walk round plantation and then back to town.
Plenty of coffee/ tea shops in the village, which is very pretty with thatched roof cottages an a couple of pubs.
Great place to visit.

Driving East along the road, there is a point where you come over the hill and are faced with a stunning vista over Chesil Beach with what looked like a castle at the top of a hill. We stopped in Abbotsbury and walked up to see it and it turned out to be this chapel. Once there you have more great views over Chesil Beach and also looking back to Abbotsbury.

This was a shortish walk you from the high street. Park near the SPA and walk up the track next to it. The chapel is at the top and worth the short hike. The views are beautiful and the chapel has some history documented on the outer boards.

Best views in Dorset! A steep climb up the hill to St Catherine's Chapel is well worth it - the views along the coast are fabulous. From Portland Lighthouse down past Lyme Bay towards Berry Head (on a clear day).
A plea from villagers in Abbotsbury: please don't park on West Street or in the village but use the Village Car Park (next to the Swan Inn)

Parked in the ample car park in Abbotsbury, large map of the area in the car park telling you exactly where everything of interest is which was very helpful. Beautiful little village, found the path to the chapel very easily but the hike up there is quite steep and hard work but it was worth it. Beautiful little chapel, so peaceful and quiet. We had the place to ourselves and had a lovely time admiring the views, you can literally see for miles and miles. A lovely place to relax. There are lots of places to eat in the village and well maintained public toilets.

We walked up here with our 3 yr old. It was beautiful. Really atmospheric. The walk is easy going with no steep inclines and the view is beautiful! We parked in the village car park then walked up the track to the side of the post office. The church is empty but still worth a look.

There are a few commercial endeavors associated with Abbotsbury the at various stages of life hold appeal to particular audiences. We were largely less interested in those, but found Abbotsbury village itself, including vistas and aura around St Catherine, a fully worthy stop for a walkabout.
Abbotsbury for us is much recommended beyond its more heralded and commercially oriented tourist attractions! For some, it's well worth a go despite those latter aspects.

Wonderful views of the stunning Dorset coast and countryside together with an amazing survivor of the reformation. If possible arrange a trip up in the tower where one of a very few altars missed in England by the agents of Henry the eighth still survives.
