Beautiful scenery
Jun. 2021 • Couples
We visited twice during our week long stay in South Devon. We loved the secluded beach at Mattiscombe Sands, accessible through the wooden gate at the bottom right corner of Start Point car park. It is about a 10 minute walk down to the cliff edge with a steep access path to the beach. Good walking shoes are needed. If you follow the path round to the left it's a mile or so along the south west coastal path to the lighthouse. The views are spectacular. The lighthouse is unfortunately closed at present due to Covid restrictions.

stunning views

a really nice walk although it's £4 to park unless of course you are on the coastal path. it is an easy tarmac path from the car park.

Misty visit
Jun. 2021 • Family
Went on the worst day for views - very misty. Lovely person manning the car park booth. Asked if we had been before (no), so told us where to access the light house and beach. About a 1/4 mile walk down hill to the light house and obviously, uphill on the way back. Hopefully we’ll return on a clearer day. Two portaloos in the car park for anyone to use. Car park charges £4 per car, cheaper after 3:30pm (does not say how much).

walk from Beesands
May 2021
Walked from Beesands to Start Point and back - apparently only 2.2miles each way, a bit tricky on a camber through the fields and down to Hallsands. You can walk down to the lighthouse but you can't go in. Pay for parking at Start Point (discounted for multiple buys). Great scenery - often windy and very exposed in places.

Impressive lighthouse
Sep. 2020
The lighthouse is closed to visitors at the moment thanks to COVID. However we decided to walk to it from the car park, which is a distance of about 1/2 mile. Easy there (downhill), bit more challenging on the way back!

Great views over the sea.

Car park is £3.50 to park, which given one is unlikely to spend more than 1 hour here is a bit expensive. However we arrived late in the afternoon and no one was collecting the fee.

Thank goodness there are walks to overcome the disappointment
Sep. 2020
For the second successive year we arrived to find the lighthouse closed, with no indication when it might reopen. Of course coronovirus may be responsible for this year's disappointment, but it was the same last year.
The area is ideal for walking. There's a car park with all day parking for £3.50 at time of writing (the cheapest we found in Devon), the South West Coastal Path to explore, and a couple of miles north a pub/restaurant to enjoy.
Pity I have had to rate it as poor - the walks are excellent, but with no opportunity to enjoy the lighthouse it has to be "poor".

Great place to visit fantastic views there are also plenty of walks along the coastal paths. Good walking boots are needed and take a packed lunch.

Fabulous walk to the lighthouse.

Really nice place to visit if in the area. Can attach it to a coast walk or park the car and walk down a safe path to it.

Nice walk, long but with lots of exciting rocks to climn
Aug. 2020 • Family
Lively stroll down to the lighthouse. Recommended for kiddies with energy to burn as there’s tons of rocks on the top ledge that are great for climbing. Shame the lighthouse is closed, the kids were so disappointed

Beautiful scenery, great coffee stop in the car park above, seals swimming close by. Challenging hills but very well worth it.
