Great place to visit with fascinating information. I was not aware that it started as a pow camp for American and French soldiers. It is a great place to visit if raining on the moor.

The prison museum is fairly interesting which compared to the prison is a revelation. So if you can try and stick to visiting the museum itself rather than the prison which is old , worn out and one of the least attractive accommodations in Devon....More

I only live maybe 25 miles away it have never been here as it is hard to see from the main road past the prison. If you do miss on the way up just keep going to the end and turn around and come back...More

HM Prison Dartmoor is a Category C men's prison, located in Princetown, high on Dartmoor in the English county of Devon. Its high granite walls dominate this area of the moor. Very bleak, the prison has a Museum you can visit.

Informative, lots of interesting exhibits spanning the years and giving a real insight into how the prison has been used and the lives of those who had the misfortune to find themselves incarcerated there Well worth a visit Small charge but worth the entrance fee

Visited today for the first time. Excellent place with it's own car park opposite the prison itself. Packed with items and displays from the 1800's and teeming with information. Met and chatted at length with the curator (and also researcher) who told us even more...More

Museum is very cheap to visit and the staff are very friendly. There is lots of information about the prison which is very interesting. There is also a display of items that some of the prisoners had made whilst in the prison which are amazing....More

We ate at the Old Police Station, just a short walk from the museum. There is a car park near the cafe and shops as well as a car park at the museum.
