About
The Dartmoor National Park Visitor Centre at Postbridge is staffed by knowledgeable local people, who will be happy to help with advice and ideas on your visit to the Dartmoor area. The Life, Death and Landscape exhibition, telling the story of prehistoric Dartmoor, is on show at the Visitor Centre with Bronze Age Dartmoor finds from the Royal Albert Memorial Museum's collection - and, for the first time on Dartmoor, there is a display showcasing replicas of items found in the internationally important Whitehorse Hill prehistoric burial. Some of these were part of the recent major exhibition at Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery, whilst some have not been on public display before We stock an extensive range of maps, guide books and publications about Dartmoor, as well as a range of useful items for the outdoor enthusiast and a variety of gifts and stationery. There are public toilets with disabled access. Postbridge is our most centrally situated Visitor Centre in the heart of the moor. It is easily accessible and the drive from either Exeter or Plymouth takes you through some of the most stunning moorland landscapes. Postbridge provides an excellent gateway to the north moor for enthusiastic hill walkers and our Centre staff will be pleased to help you to plan a suitable route. The weather can be very changeable on the high moor and walkers should be adequately equipped for anything more than a short stroll.

A perfect old bridge
Jul. 2021
A fantastic old stone bridge and the ancient pack horse bridge survivor. If lucky with the weather great views of the swirling waters over the rocks and stones. A lovely area for a picnic, but little nearby parking.

Very helpful
Apr. 2021 • Family
The 2 members of staff were very helpful when we asked about walls in the local area. We were able to buy a map for £2 and set off on the circular waterfall walk. We were advised to keep high and that the terrain would be rough underfoot. Distance was 5.6 miles and with lots of stops on the way for photos and negotiating river crossings took us around 3.5-4 hours. A very enjoyable hike

Really friendly and helpful staff
Sep. 2020
This was our first visit to there area so we were grateful for the advice from the staff at the centre. Yes, we did get a little lost on our hike, but that was more to do with us than them!

Closed for renovations
Aug. 2020 • Couples
Visitors centre is closed for renovations for the last few months. The doors we open but we were refused to be allowed to fill up water bottles. Had to buy bottled water from the post office instead, seemed like a waste of plastic to me.

Ice cream
Aug. 2019
The Visitor Centre is useful, staff are clueless. You have to pay to park, Dartmoor Parks never lose an opportunity to squeeze more money out of the visiting public. They sell ice cream at the Post Office next door. Don't buy it. It's an absolute rip off, £2 for a couple of teaspoons of ice cream. It's licensed theft. The male server at the Post Office is rude and surly. Generally Postbridge is a tourist trap for hapless visitor. Don't go there.

One of the best
Aug. 2019 • Family
This visitor centre was one of the best in Dartmoor, and beyond! Only £1 for 3 hours parking, very knowledgeable and friendly staff and a lovely interactive history display upstairs. Oh and clapper bridge only 2 minutes walk down the road.

We will return

Fascinating area of Dartmoor

Lots of accessible and more difficult walking. Fishing permits available. Only problem is lack of good food in the immediate vicinity.

Good start point
Jul. 2019 • Solo
The visitor centre at Postbridge is an excellent starting point for Dartmoor. It has much information on the National Park and has a medieval clapper bridge opposite. With Dartmoor being so big and containing many natural attractions, there is no better place to gather information for your visit. Please be aware of Wild Ponies on the roads. So much to see so allow plenty of time!

Exhibition in the Visitors centre
Jul. 2019 • Couples
This exhibition, housed on the first floor of the Information Centre at Postbridge was most informative and also interactive. The excavations and Bronze Age finds are extraordinary. We particularly enjoyed the movie, portraying the ‘ young’ person whose remains were found, together with jewelry, and the significance of these excavations.
Definitely worth a visit!

Very knowledgeable and helpful man behind the till. Showed us where to walk and which parts were tricky and if any places should be avoided.
