From the moment we got of the car we felt a calm. Just walking around smelling the flowers and looking at the scenery was so peaceful. Very busy but the people were walking round were either silent or spoke in low respectful tones for the surroundings. The abbey itself gives a warm welcoming feeling. It's totally amazing. There was something... More

What a lovely place. On a nice day, you can take your own picnic if you don't wish to spend to eat in the grounds. There is a cafe there. The Abbey is beautiful and there's also the gift shop and museum. It is free to enter the Abbey and its grounds.

We are a family of 3. There's me, my husband who is totally blind and my son, a wheelchair user. We get around by me pushing my son's wheelchair and my husband having his hand on my shoulder, so I can guide him. We found the Abbey to be beautiful and very spiritual. The gardens were beautiful as well and... More

A gamble that this would be a better place to stop en route from Cornwall to Essex certainly paid off. The abbey and gardens are attractive and interesting. The shops sell hard to find items from abbeys across Europe, such as incense. The cafe was a Godsend, if I'm permitted to say that about a facility at a Christian treasure.... More

Thank you so much for writing about your en route stop off. We are delighted that you enjoyed the abbey and gardens. As you say, the Monastic Shop sells goods from abbeys across Europe and these make excellent gifts and treats as many are not available in High Streets. We are glad you found the café to be a Godsend... More
