Beautiful place to visit
Jul. 2021
What a beautiful place, the Abbey is a lovely building. The gardens are well kept and are a pleasure to wander about in. There is excellent facilities at the restaurant too. I would highly recommend a visit.

A restored interesting place
Jun. 2021
A very interesting visit. Free, because they run it as a business with accommodation to let and a nice cafe. Restored impressively and interestingly, and with gardens to visit. Henry VIII had scavenged the original during his criminal, self serving, vicious dictatorship and Magna Carta was usurped.

Really beautiful place to visit. Lovely gardens especially the lavender one. We had a guided tour and the gentleman that did it was very knowledgeable and informative. The car park, the entry and the guided tour were all free of charge.

Well worth a visit
Jul. 2021 • Couples
Lovely grounds, facilities, gardens and Abbey. Well worth a vist, being relatively modern enhances the attraction.
The gardeners deserve credit too.
If you are coming by steam train from Totnes, it is a 20 min walk along a road, and all up hill going back, local taxi's wont come out as it's not worth it !

The Abbey is beautiful to wander round inside. The gardens and peaceful and well kept, and the cafe has lots of outdoor eating space. Was a little dissapointed with the shops.

Peaceful and Relaxing
Jun. 2021
Wonderful place to visit and just walk around the grounds. Free entry and parking.
Well maintained.
There is a modern restaurant and terrace for refreshments
Typical Gift Shop with usual stuff - still your choice to buy!
Lovely place to stop off on your way to/from your holidays for an hour or two if you've a bit of a journey, or even before/after doing parts of Dartmoor!

A Peaceful Haven
Jun. 2021 • Couples
This was our first visit to Buckfast Abbey in about twenty years. Still a very calming experience. The Abbey church is a haven of peace and a work of great devotion. The gardens are lovely, especially the garden with the stag sculpture. We had much needed coffee and cake in the attractive restaurant. The only jarring note were the shops. We were hoping to buy local produce, and were disappointed the Abbey no longer produced honey. We were looking for gifts made in Devon but, dare I say it, most the items both religious and secular were tat, made in China. Never mind, it is still a beautiful place to visit.

Thank you so much for writing about your visit, we are delighted to welcome you back after twenty years. We are sorry that you did not like our shops. We do indeed have a large selection of goods made locally, including fudge made by our own monks and plants from our Garden Department and a local nursery. We sell locally made jams and chutneys and also liqueurs that are made nearby. We support local craftspeople as well as monastic communities in the British Isles and Europe. We are sorry that you did not like our range from China, but that is just one section within the three shops. Unfortunately our bees no longer produce enough honey to sell commercially although we are currently looking at how to solve this problem. We do hope that you can visit us again, and we would be delighted to show you our many goods which are not shipped in from China.
