A good place to Visit or Stay, but plan ahead to eat out.
Jun. 2021
Brixham is quite a nice Harbour, and it is still operational as a fishing port so boats are coming in and out all day. If you stay in a property around the Harbour, like we did, you will be treated to a man in the smallest but loudest motor boat in the world - he sets off in the mornings at about 08:00 and it runs so slow that it seems to go for ever. It sounds like a loud prolonged fart, and we ended up calling it the "farty boat". In the evenings you can then enjoy two lads darting about on scramblers - these too are noisy. Added enjoyment can be had if seagulls are nesting on the roof of the property. Parking is limited so you have to be early or lucky to get a space, and pedestrians have a habit of walking on the road sometimes so you need to be alert. The promenade near the RNLI is quite a nice walk, but our fellow brits have a habit of walking 5 or 6 abreast thus taking up all of it and appear to be oblivious to their fellow perambulators. There are a few restaurants around the harbour but these fill up fast, so you will need to book them in advance. This summer is likely to be staycation-tastic, and this is where Brixham really falls over in that, there are not enough Restaurants to cope with the expected demand. I don't envy anyone having to Holiday there during the Summer School Holiday. You can catch a ferry to Torquay and enjoy the smell as you queue up! I'm pointing out the negatives here so to finish with some positives: it is a nice place to stay or visit, if you plan ahead you can enjoy the restaurants, and there are a few nice beaches nearby.

Nothing to beat this on a sunny day. Lots of happy people, plenty of places to eat and drink and just stunning views. Love the sound of the seagulls too!

Day Trip
Jul. 2021 • Couples
Went for a day trip due to staying in the area.
Lovely place, lovely town and very clean.
Parking can be tricky and expensive but once you get a space it's worth a stay.
The harbour is lovely, with lots of quaint restaurants, coffee shops and places to sit and watch the world go by.
Brixham has a nice feel about it, friendly and welcoming. It's got a bit of traditional charm to it without being tacky.

Brixham Harbour
Jul. 2021
Brixham is a small, crowded, dirty harbour, there isn't even a proper beach, just a tiny stretch of pebbles that meets the water. There is nothing to do in the harbour town except sit around and eat fish and chips, among the rubbish strewn streets, really don't see the appeal as to why so many people flock down here and cram themselves into a tiny stinking harbour. There is a vibe of the town being very local-orientated and the locals don't seem very welcoming which doesn't create a good atmosphere, would not recommend for family holiday with kids because there is literally nothing to do, apart from a small pirate ship which never seems to be open. If you want a nicer family holiday go Torquay or Paignton, at least those towns have more proper beaches, or even go to the South Hams or Cornwall and avoid Torbay altogether.

Brixham Harbour
Jun. 2021
Very much a working harbour alongside all the pleasure boats.
Pleasant stroll along the breakwater gives a good view back into town. Here you'll find people fishing for the likes of mackerel. On leaving the breakwater by the slipway we found a plaque telling the history of Brixham's involvement in the D Day landings when Americans embarked on their journey across the channel.
Walk around the harbour where you'll find numerous eateries, takeaways, shops and bars. Golden Hind is moored up here. Although not the original ship Sir Francis Drake sailed in, this is an impressive full size replica and used as a museum ship.
Further round the harbour on the SW Coast Path, past the Brixham Seafish Company, you will find the Battery Gardens.
You won't be disappointed with a visit to Brixham.

A historic scene, with much to view
Jun. 2021
Busy and the obvious centre of this quite charming town, the Harbour here at Brixham is what the little town is all about. Brixham is synonymous with deep sea, and inshore fishing, which is mainly carried out just away from the picturequese old harbour, Here the commercial fishing sheds, moorings and markets are separated from the quaint and surprisingly shallow waters. It is a historic scene, enhanced by the "Golden Hind" gives it a village feel, which combined with the narrow streets, and even more steeper lanes and steps up the enclosing hillsides. It is a lovely town with a true working feeling to place as well as the tourist crowds.
Away from the busy fish and chip restaurants, the are a number of nightlife spots, Further round the harbour are some very attractive small gardens that overlook the harbour and are the results of some inspirational usage of plants and nautical bric a brac. Certainly the standard is very high, and obviously very attractive, and the result of some hard work. It gives such a great impression for locals and visitors alike.

A typical English seaside resort
Jun. 2021
We came here on a day out for my partner's birthday while staying in the outlying country. Whilst I can understand some of the positive reviews I think it clearly depends upon your perspective and what you are looking for
.
We arrived quite early on a Saturday morning and having researched the parking in advance stayed in the long stay car park at Freshwater Quarry. We wandered along the seafront and enjoyed looking at the harbour. It is still very much a working port and there are plenty of seats along the front to sit and people/boat watch.

We took a stroll up through the shops and like so many English seaside resorts it looked quite dejected with a lot of charity shops, dirty streets and unattractive cafes. There is absolutely no variation, unless you enjoy good old fish and chips and the like you are stuck. We tried to find something healthy or vegetarian and came away at a loss.

Having gone for a walk along the coastal path for a couple of hours we returned later in the afternoon. The Harbourside was absolutely heaving with no social distancing in evidence and cafes/pubs overflowing onto the pathways. There were people everywhere even sat on random rocks eating their takeaway fish n chips. Sorry, just not us and we swiftly made our way back to the car park.

Wonderful Harbour
May 2021
Brixham is amazing, very special in many ways, people are very friendly, very calm, plenty of good places to eat, not spoilt by lots of development.
Once we found we can get back down enough, you will love it.
