Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stayed here just by O’Dowds in an apartment overlooking the bay and harbours. Looking at the photos it appears if you come here in summer it’s chaos, and there was evidence this is likely the case. We visited in November. It wasn’t basking in sunshine but it certainly wasn’t horrendous. It was showery, never dry for an entire day, but you could walk regularly around this and we did see some sun. Main benefit in going during this time was the driving, empty roads and great fun driving a sports car , a proper one not a pseudo sports SUV, at sensible but fun speeds.

My advice, go in off season.

Roundstone is a lovely village with stunning beaches and scenery right around the bay. Dogs Bay beach is the nicest but be warned on a nice day the area can get very crowded and driving/getting around can be a slow and frustrating experience in the traffic on such skinny roads. No surprise thigh as the bay is just gorgeous. Go early.

We booked both Stand Up Paddle Boarding (SUP) and Kayaking with Shane for my extended family and myself. Absolutely excellent. His colleague Ciara took us Kayaking, fantastic with everyone. They made both activities very relaxing and fun. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Shane and his company.

The Inishnee island loop walk takes you round the middle Inishnee island on a 4.5km track. It’s pretty easy going all the way round. You get to see the views across sea on all sides of the island, plus the little fishing harbour.

Worth a walk if you’re in the area.

Just come back from a fabulous week in Roundstone , the highlight of the week was a trip out in a Galway Hooker. The traditional Galway boat leaves regularly from Roundstone Harbour and is manned by 3 local men who are all experienced sailors with a wealth of local knowledge. Having never been on a sailing boat before I was a little apprehensive especially as it was low tide and the climb down over the side of the harbour to the boat was the most harrowing thing for me. However the crew were both patient and very kind to me reassuring me all was ok.I felt very safe with them. The trip itself was a beautiful experience on a glorious day and we had interesting lively discussions about the local area, history and culture. The scenery out in the bay is breathtaking and the crews local knowledge comes into play here as they can point and discuss all the local landmarks and the history attached to them.
I can highly recommend this trip to anyone who is visiting this part of Connemara.

One of the most fantastic things we have ever done as a family, we booked a 3 hour kayaking trip round Inish Lacken with Shane of Roundstone Outdoors. We met Shane at Erlough, the prettiest little harbour on an amazingly calm morning, and after a safety briefing, Shane provided everything from wetsuits, spraydecks and life jackets, we set off.
He was so knowledgable about the area, we saw so much wildlife, plovers nesting on the beach on the island, there were seals swimming around us, the sea is utterly unpolluted, we even ate seaweed, just a stunning morning on the water with a wonderful guide, if it's the only activity you do in this beautiful place, do it!

This was a stop along our day out drive and it was a very small fishing village. It was pretty but not much there at all. It was very windy. Not sure if it is like that all the time here. We stopped at the little gift shop which was nice and had a lot of merchandise to look at. It also had a sitting area for those who wanted coffee or croissant. You had to pay one Euro to use the bathroom. It opens up to boys and girls so tip if you all need to go, use one euro and all can go in. The weather was funny here on the day were were there. We drove up and it was raining. It stopped and sunny day appeared... then we went inside the store and rain and sleet / hail started..then within a few min (like 3) it was sunny again.. this happened about 8 times that day... :) So pretty area, but windy and not much to do.

We drove to Inishnee, which is just one kilometer outside of Roundstone. There’s parking just over the first bridge. The loop walk is a wonderful amenity for the area. At just over 6k if you stick to the dedicated route it’s a perfect way to experience the area and marvel at the scenery. There’s amazing views back to the village of Roundstone across the bay and the Twelve Bens tower to the North. The entire walk is suitable for families, dogs and non experienced walkers. For those who’d like a bigger hike you can cut off and extend the walk by heading to the furthest point of the Island.
It’s well worth a visit!

Traveled here on Sunday to attend church...but priest hadn't changed times yet.
Most stories not open or opened late because of Sunday.

The name is a poor English translation for the Gaelic name meaning bay of rocks or lots of rocks in bay. There is no "round stone".

Met several locals who were very pleasant.
