Did you know The designation of DUKW is not a military pun - the name comes from the terminology used for military vehicles in World War II; the D indicates a vehicle designed in 1942, the U meant "utility (amphibious)", the K indicated all-wheel drive and the W indicated two powered rear axles. Although technically a misnomer, DUKWs are often referred to as duck boats. Another popular nickname was old magoo or simply magoo. Though the origin of this term is unknown, it probably refers to the odd shape of the vehicle. DUKWs became known as ''Ducks'' and are still in use, as well as purpose-built amphibious tour buses, primarily as tourist transport in harbor and river cities.

My sister and I took a Chattanooga Duck tour on a hot summer afternoon. A "duck" is an amphibious landing vehicle that can travel on land and in the water. After a brief road tour, our guide Steve took us to the riverfront, gave anyone...More

The tour was great, but the tour guide really made the trip a five-star experience. He filled us with facts interspersed with humor throughout the entire trip. It's a bit pricey, but worth it. And don't forget to tip your tour guide.

Great trip on the river. Captain Dave gave a great tour and learned the history of the region. He let my teen daughters drive the duck and do doughnuts on the Tennessee River. Not just little kids get to drive, old and young.

My 10 year old son had a blast. He got to drive the boat. The guide was very knowledgeable about local history which made it worth while for me.

We had such a good time. My son loved driving the boat. The entire ride was educational as well as entertaining. Got to see a part of Chattanooga we had never seen. Will definitely go again.

No you don't get soaked. Occasionally when the wind is very strong from the west it can blow into the Duck. On those days the Captain will usually enter the water slower to reduce the "splash"

I just checked their website and it looks like they only have tours from March to October. You can give them a call to find out for sure.

It last close to an hour. Most of the visit is on the water with a short shuttle from their 'base' to the launch site. One suggestion . . .make sure you charge your devices to capture everything. Hope you enjoy!
