Having spent most of the day in Deadwood, we didn’t know if we had sufficient time to take in this attraction. As it turned out, we did spend lots of time on the tour through the “gold mine” with our very well informed guide. This is a very creative museum. We learned some things about mining techniques, but also lots... More

I love mining and railroad history so visiting this museum was high on my list of things to do in Lead, especially as our hotel was only about two blocks away. We arrived at 2:15 pm on the day of our visit and our optional tour of the basement recreated gold mine started just 15 minutes later. Our guide was... More

My 12 year old granddaughter and I stopped here and took a tour of the 'recreated' mine. It was very interesting and worth the charge. We also panned for gold and the gentleman who helped us was patient and informative. It was $10 per person but the experience was worth it. We each ended up with a small amount of... More

We had planned to go to another gold mine near by but it was closed so we found this place. The tour was great and my boys learned a lot. It was worth the money for sure. They really just wanted to pan for gold. It was $10 for each pan but you got to keep the gold that was... More

Just 5 of us took the tour through the recreated mine. I was very surprised at how much I learned and how interesting it was. It has been the highlight of the trip so far!

While this is a simulated Underground mine tour it is well worth the small price. The underground mine exhibit was created by over 140 miners and former mine employees. You can just visit the museum or do the guided tour and museum both. I recommend doing both. Learned so much about gold mining on this tour. Our tour guide was... More

This is a great stop to learn about the Gold Mine. This place is not the actual Gold Mine, but rather a "fake" representation. You actually go down to a replica floor in the mine and learn about the various processes for drilling for Gold. The Museum is also very good and worth visiting.

We were welcomed and decided to take the underground tour as well as the museum. It was a good decision. The guide was very informative, with an occasional related pun, and it was great to see and hear about the local mine, the miners and their equipment. The museum too has lots of tools and equipment along with other artifacts... More

Guide exceptional (same as previous comments, lady's father worked down the mine for 30 years +) and provided a great insight of history through to modern day effect on the town. Have visited a number of mining museums in UK (coal mining) and other countries and this is by the far the best from a demonstration and description of methods... More
