Overview
More
An 1880 Train ride is a two-hour, narrated 20-mile round trip between Hill City snd Keystone South Dakota in the beautiful Black Hills. Passengers view vistas of Harney Peak, mining encampments and participate in good old-fashioned fun. Trains follow the original route of the Chicago Burlington and Quincy Railroad laid down in the late 1880s to service the mines and mills between Hill City and Keystone. The Black Hills Central Railroad is the oldest continuously operating tour railroad in the nation and operates three steam and two diesel engines throughout the season. One of our steam engines is close to 100 years old!

It was fun to see the restored cars and hear the narrative on the trip, but it got a little slow. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

I spent two days in the Black Hills with friends and made the great experience to ride the train. It takes approximately one hour and is a great experience for people who like old trains. Service ist very good and staff is great!

We recommend booking early to ensure there are seats on the ride you prefer. All rides typically sell out. We open for the 2017 season May 14.

If we stay for a while in Keystone (taking train from Hill City), are we close to the Alpine Slide and Rushmore Tramway? Those are just a few attractions we'd love to hit while in Keystone
