We stumbled upon Mt Roosevelt road by driving on the streets above Deadwood and somehow reaching the gravel road that took us to the monument. The drive is beautiful with views of Deadwood from above. It took is 15-20minutes going this back way. There is...More

Four presidents carved on the side of a mountain by the US government in the 1940’s to draw people to SD. Museum explaining its history and a large restaurant/snack bar and gift shop. Pay to park and free admission.

Located right outside of Deadwood and up high, the drive is about 15 min and the hike about 10. The terrain off the trail is amazing as it looks like a sea/waves of rock. The hike is uphill and a bit of a trek but...More

Pretty cool view from the top. Probably 10 minute hike through the woods to get to monument. The monument itself has a spiral staircase with fairly tall steps. If you are not going to be going on any longer hikes this is a good short...More

A rather steep hike up to the tower, but so worth the views. If an old fat man like myself can make it up there, so can you. Steep staircase to top of tower, but tread carefully and enjoy the 360 degree views. You will...More

It was a steady incline and took about 15 minutes to reach the top; don't wear flip flops like I did! 😂 Really worth the view!

Mt. Roosevelt Monument is a look out on the northwest side of Deadwood that was build as a tribute to Teddy Roosevelt.

There are two paths on the way up to the tower. The view is wonderful plus once you get up there they have a place for another out look. The path is rough in some spots. Have a walking stick with.

Mount Roosevelt is pretty simple to find. Just head north out of Deadwood and hang a left on Mt Roosevelt road (the same turn for the Lodge at Deadwood). Stay on Mt Roosevelt road until you get there (about 2 miles).
