When we could not get on the crowded Fort Sumpter boat tour, we decided to drive to Sullivan's Island and visit Fort Moultrie, and we are so glad that we did! Just a very quick and easy trip from Charleston, Sullivan's Island is full of history. The grounds of this national park are beautiful, the history is compelling and the... More

This area is steeped in Collonial, War of Independence and Civil War history of with this Fort is a very well preserved and annotated example. The views across Charleston Harbour are excellent. There is a good little introductory display at reception.

Beautiful park. Great sunsets. Very informative museum. Enjoyed this fort more than Fort Sumpter. Great place to watch the cargo ships come in and out of port.

One visit to this national gem and you'll understand why it was featured on the back of one of the NPS commemorative quarters. Not only is it the site of a key British defeat in the Revolutionary War, but it was an active installation from 1809 to 1846 and the NPS interprets all the key phases of this underappreciated gem.... Gives an excellent summary of the Civil War battle(s) regarding Fort Sumter, without having to get on a ferry and be cooped up on an island. You also get the benefit of history of the area, and of the Coastal Defenses, from the Revolutionary War up til WW2 !! All this for $1 each (seniors). We spent a 1/2 day... More

We took our 11 year old son to visit, and think it will be nice when they are studying in school for him to be able to visualize the Fort. There was a museum we visited first and then walked across the street to the fort. We appreciated the fact that it only cost $5 per family for the tour.... More

Interesting place for a spot. The fort sits across for Fort Summner. It's takes about an hour to hour and a half depending on how much time you spend in each area. Lots of history to be seen. Worth the time we felt

After reading that bathrooms were unavailable at Ft Sumter, we decided to just visit here and see it from distance. This was great place to visit on way out of Charleston. Done very well and learned a lot. Was easy to get around if you can walk up stairs. For 5 dollar admission fee for both of us,was a bargain. We... More

Great opportunity to see how the British fought in the war and how we defended. The Park Service has done a wonderful job giving us a view of history. Make sure you take time to walk the grounds. It is beautiful and you can see Fort Sumpter on a clear day.

We did not realize this fort was as big as it was. For only a couple dollars, it was well worth the stop. It also has a nice visitor center across the street...and free parking!
