Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great campground! Small in size but the sites are spacious. The campground hosts maintain the sites and the bathrooms well. Bathrooms were very clean, well stocked with toilet paper and hot showers. Easy walk to the camp store & small beach on the Edisto River. We spent 6 nights here.
Only con was that the noise from the main road outside the state park could be heard especially in the morning. I would recommend this campground. Travel into Charleston takes almost an hour with traffic.

We have the SC State Parks Pass and enjoy getting to experience new areas in the state. This has been our least favorite park thus far. The views of the river are pretty, but they are pretty limited. We completed the nature bluff trail, which really only shows the river for a few minutes. A large bulk of the trail is walking beside a road that you can see and hear through the trees. Our daughter loves hiking, and even she admitted it was her least favorite one we had been to.

Our first visit to Givhan's Ferry State Park was the third week of April 2021. The main attraction is access to the Edisto River, where we saw visitors fishing and just enjoying the forest hiking trails. RV spaces are not too close together and tent camping is also available. Unlike other SC parks, there is no camp store, but less than a mile off of the property are two small convenience stores. The office is usually closed. Check-in can be done with the park rangers as they will be aware of your arrival. We saw two bathhouses, which were reasonably clean.

Canoeing is popular, but you have to bring your own, as there are no boat rentals. There are no mountain bike trails, but I did bike around the paved roads within the park, also seeing cabins for rent right up at the edge of the river. The one complaint we had was excessive noise from construction and logging trucks rumbling all day up and down Route 61 at the edge of the park.

All in all, we enjoyed the visit because we escaped the pandemic madness of the urban area where we live. Such a relief not to bother with wearing those useless masks!

My friends and I had to travel to the Ridgeville area which is about 2 1/2 hours away from where we live. We wanted a place to stop for a picnic lunch and a walk after our errand and before getting back in the car. This park was perfect for that!
There are numerous picnic tables within the park. The restroom was clean. The highlight was the walk that went by the river. It's a short walk - we found it to be about 1 mile from gate-to-gate (2 miles round trip). There is a short section of up and down; the rest of the trail is mostly flat. There is a nice overview of the river (you can scramble down to the water's edge; we choose not to). Overall the walk had a lot of the native plants accompanied by birds singing. Great way to get the character of the area while taking a break from a road trip.

Camped here for a long weekend. This is a smaller SC State Park. Campground is sand/gravel roads which is fine, same with the sites. Bathrooms are older style SC Park style but they were clean and maintained.

Most of the electric at the campsites is 30 amp only, but there are some 50 amps. 6 of the campsites have sewer hookups. We stayed in site 11 which was huge and in my opinion it the best site in the campground. It was on a turn so it was easy to get a travel trailer straight on the road then back in. Site 9 is the closest site and it was still a ways off.

The primary function of this park is the Edisto River. On warm weekends the park is very busy with day users, which is great, love to see the parks busy and supported. There is a tubing company that drops people off here at the park. They shuttle people in. I would assume if you at staying at the park you could ride you tube and then catch the shuttle back. Most people ride the shuttle in and float down to their destination where they parked.

There is one official hiking trail, the River Bluff. It is 1.5 miles and the beginning make you feel as if you are in the mountains. It is a nice hike but in reality maybe only ¼ mile or less is along the river. You also also high up on the bluffs and with leaves on the trees you don’t get good views of the river. There is a spot where people can get down and close to the river. There is another trail, not on the maps, that starts at the swimming area, pass the bathrooms and you will find it. This one runs along the river and you get much better views, though it is short. You will come across a board walk/stairs, this leads up to the cabins.

As noted above there is a swimming area. Seems nice and the water felt refreshing, though we did not swim. I would imagine that are busy weekends it would be very crowded between people hanging around on the beach and tubers starting off down the river.

There is not much to do in the area. There are no grocery stores nearby. There is a convenience store near the entrance, though it is of questionable appearance.
Bee City is a neat place for kids. Small interactive Zoo. We didn’t have kids but enjoyed it. They do produce honey and was hoping to see the bees, none to be found. Guess too much risk to people or bees. Though they will happily sell you some honey, yeah, we bought some!

Cypress Gardens is about a 45 minute drive, well worth the trip.

This is the closest State Park to Charleston so that would be another day trip, or several day trips. Though if Charleston is you goal I would recommend James Island County Park for camping and experiencing Charleston.

There were a lot of people there Saturday to tube on the river. If you want to go there to social distance don’t go on a weekend.
We did enjoy a nice picnic, but too many big groups for us to want to stay.

We enjoyed the park even though it isn’t big and the campsites seem fairly small. The river was really high today so the beach was nonexistent but normally there should be a nice beach area. Overall still a beautiful park.

I've been coming here since I was a kid for family reunions. Never stayed over night but beautiful property. Very well kept and the water is a blast to swim in and down. Can get very packed during the summer but it won't deter us from going back.
