The slogan that Brookgreen Gardens uses is certainly applicable to their "Nights of a Thousand Candles." We have been to this event many times and each year, it seems to get better. Now that you have to buy tickets online for a specific day, it is so easier to get into the event without the long wait along US-17. The... More

All I can say is "Wow!" The Night of a Thousand Candles is an experience that must be had. We were there for the tree lighting at 5:45 and it was awe-inspiring. All the various gardens and displays were gorgeously decorated and the entertainment was also quite good. Puts you in the holiday spirit for sure. A must do!

Truly spectacular. A visual mastery of lights. Pictures will not do it justice. Do yourself a favor and take your time to appreciate the incredible work that goes into this truly special holiday display.

We have been her several times, but this time we went for the Christmas time of Night of a Thousand candles. There are 5000 hand lit candles throughout the gardens. There are also many different types of lights all over the area. It is truly beautiful and fun. The huge Christmas tree is lit at 5:45 each night. Most of... More

Every trip to SC includes a trip to Brookgreen. If you are fortunete to be in the area the first three weeks in December I highly reccomend their Night of a Thousand Candles. The grounds are illuminated with luminaria and myriad lights. I 've tickets to go again this year. While you can't visit wuthout a lot of walking the... More

One can spend a full day here. Started with an excellent docent tour in the morning. Had lunch at the Pavilion restaurant, toured the zoo and had a boat ride in the afternoon. The only disappointing event was the boat ride – the docent gave minimal information, contrary to what the morning docent had led us to expect. Large adult... More

Huge, fantastic acres of sculpture gardens to experience. Tours are available, we walked on our own with maps. Take time to visit the entire grounds and all indoor/outdoor sculpture galleries. River boat ride is great break and opportunity to learn about rice plantations, see a few gators on the riverbanks and relax. Don't pass on the local aromatic rice in... More

The staff at the gate are welcoming and knowledgeable. The welcome center as well. The staff took the time to not only orient us but also gave the kids their detective booklets. The zoo was natural setting zoo and not too overwhelming. The storybook forest was the kids' favorite. The sculptures were spread throughout as well as in their own... More

What a perfect setting. There is history. There is nature. There is fun. From wild annimals to rice fields, touch the Old South. Very educational -- especially with the art. Warning: Very hot in August!
