We bring our classes from Ferrum College in Virginia to the Belle Baruch Marine Lab for a few days of studies and always stop in to the Discovery and Visitor Center for the students to get a historical view of the area and for them to see the excellent displays of the natural history. The live animal discovery area in... More

We enjoyed the video and the visitors' center before going on the tour. The tour includes a narrated bus ride throughout the property, including the slave dwellings, Belle's house, the research areas. The ride takes visitors to the main house, where a docent takes over the tour. The tour is filled with history, including visits from FDR and Churchill. Make... More

We called to see if the tour was available and made a reservation. It all started in the Visitor's Center which featured a film about the grounds and the Baruch Family. All of the volunteers that were there couldn't have been nicer and friendlier. Our tour bus driver was very well versed about all the grounds and the house. We... More

The Visitor Center is the heart of this exquisite piece of land that thanks to Belle, Bernard Baruch's daughter, has set aside 16000 acres of rice plantations situated between the Atlantic Ocean and the Waccamaw River. The Visitor Center displays maps of the property, has photos, geologic and ecological maps of the acres along with a snake or two and... More

You could drive past this place 1000 times and never realize what you're missing. There's not a lot to see at the visitor's center itself, but the tour is well worth taking. The house is remarkable. I really like that there is so much original furniture, photographs, and other belongings in the house. It really helps to show you the... More

Perfect setting for an environmental fundraiser! Although Hurricane Matthew postponed the original event, it did not quell the enthusiasm of the crowd nor detract from the scenic setting.

If you want to understand some of the rich history of the low country including the early economy, the connection to slavery, and the ecology and biology of the area, you will enjoy this center and the tour. It takes at least 2.5-3 hours so do not do this if you are in a hurry. You will only get a... More

We had a very informative visit to Hobcaw Barony. Both our driver/guide, Stuart and the house docent, Sue were extremely knowledgeable and solicited and answered numerous questions. We started with a movie that provided background as to what we were going to see. We learned how Bernard Baruch, from New York City, visited and bought approximately 70,000 acres for $3.15... More
