The State House tour was very informative, as South Carolina has been the site of many historic events. In addition, Columbia and the State House figure prominently in many wars and events.

Beautiful inside, great architecture in and out. Full of Civil War and Confederate history. Nice monuments surrounding the building including the Wade Hampton equestrian statue. Give yourself an hour to walk around.

Had our own private tour of the Senate House - fabulous. The guide was excellent and we learnt a lot about the building, the history of South Carolina, politics and so much more. And all for free.

We stop and view all state houses when doing our road trips. We viewed people pacing themselves running up and down the stairs. I felt like I was watching a Rocky movie. We didn't have time to tour around the inside due to time constraints....More

This is a lovely place to visit. Take either a self-guided tour, or let a knowledgeable guide give you an interesting history lesson. The architecture is lovely, the staff is top-notch. Be sure to see all the statuary and points of interest on the grounds.

The State house should be of great interest to kids but ONLY if it is in session. Then it is great to see governing in action and the term lobbying takes on a new meaning when seen live. Make your plans accordingly.
