Loved the play but the seats were uncomfortable
While we were in Charleston on vacay, I made reservations to see "A Place called Bountiful", very well done. Very sentimental like "Driving Miss Daisy." Loved the history of the building too. My only complaint was my husband is 6'4" and had a hard time getting comfortable on the old chairs for seating in the balcony and since we were in a balcony area with 4 people, there was no where for him to relax down. It was hard on him especially.

    Bonus visit on our trip!
We were actually on our way to another tourist destination and walked by the theater and it was open for visitors. The volunteer in the lobby was very friendly and welcoming! She encouraged us to walk around and explore this historic theater. A lot of information about the theater inside in different areas. Beautiful decor. May layers to the historical significance of this theater. Definitely worth a stop!

    A MUST see performance!
Went to see Fiddler on the Roof; WOW what a show!! The performers were stupendous as was the live orchestra. We sat in the balcony and could see everything perfectly. The lady that helped us over the phone, Cris, was an angel; so blessed to have dealt with her. We truly enjoyed the performance and recommend it highly.

As we were walking we came across this beautiful structure. My husband and I was just admiring it, when a lovely older gentleman came out and said we could come in and tour. It was nice to get out of the heat and there was a bathroom inside. We enjoyed the courtyard, along with the beautiful theater. I would give it a 5 but we didn’t get to see a play. It would have been Lovely to see a play there.

We have been attending performances of Charleston Stage since moving to South Carolina in 2004, and have found most of them to be superb. Now that we have moved from Myrtle Beach to the Charleston area, we are looking forward to continue attending performances at the Dock Street theatre, although we are very disappointed with the 2022-2023 selections. Although we had previously seen “Kinky Boots” during a visit to Toronto, this performance had excellent acting, singing, dancing, costumes, and scenery, and was totally enjoyable.

We saw the Spoleto Festival opera “Unholy Wars” at the Dock Street Theatre. Although the production was excellent, with great opera singers, the supertitles were too small, compared to those at the Gaillard Center, where we saw “La Boheme”, so my wife had difficulty reading them and easily following the story. Fortunately, we had attended the Zoom discussion about this opera, so she did have some idea about it. The Spoleto operas are more suitably presented at either the Gaillard Center or Sottile Theatre, than at the Dock Street Theatre, which is ideal for theatrical productions, but not operas.

We were visiting Charleston and saw this playing so we got tickets. We went to see Addams Family and could not be more impressed with the cast, costumes, and set design!! We would love to again if we lived in town. The talent is out of this world!

Took one of the Many Ghost Tours of Charleston and this was one of the Stops. We heard stories about Ghosts which haunt the theater after suffering a tragic death. Love the design and historic architecture. The building is well preserved and has a great historical past making this one of the most visited locations downtown.

We stopped at the Dock Street Theater big during this time of Covid, we didn’t enter the inside. The outside is so reminiscent of buildings in the French Quarter of New Orleans. We were able to see the pieced together areas of new construction that joined original structures.

The show was fun and the performances were all very good. The theatre is beautiful inside with great lighting and sound. My only complaint is the seating. It is very tight and not very comfortable. I know this is a historic venue and I have no regrets about going. Just would have enjoyed it more with a skoosh more room and padding.
