Experience the sounds that define Charleston's musical history...from gospel to Gershwin. Each weekly live concert features music of the Civil War; light classics of the venerable St. Cecelia Society; the music of George Gershwin, who wrote "Porgy & Bess" during a summer in Charleston; gospel spirituals sung by slaves as they passed through the port of Charleston; and "Amazing Grace", the words of which were inspired in the composer, John Newton, while he worshipped in our host venue, Circular Congregational Church. Frommers Travel Guide says, "the best night out in Charleston...a must see performance. Visit our website or call the box office for concert dates and ticket information.

This was truly a highlight of our trip to Charleston. The church itself is just beautiful, as well as the grounds and the cemetery. But the music......wow! Bill, the host, is a master storyteller. His enthusiasm is contagious. The flute player was magical. The pianists,...More

This show was a major highlight of my first visit to Charleston---spellbinding storytelling, magical musicianship, gospel voices that reached to heaven; a wonderful show in a beautiful church. I would give it six stars if I could.

My wife and I greatly enjoyed this production. We loved the history and the music. The only criticism I would make is the venue. While the circular church provides a great historical venue, the acoustics aren't great and my back doesn't find pews very comfortable....More

This is really a must for your visit to Charleston. Great stories, songs and piano music. The evening included classical, historical, spiritual, and topped off with Rhapsody in Blue. The talent of the musicians was exceptional.
