Join a 13th generation Middleton, for a personalized local perspective. End the tour in a private garden with refreshments. Walk with a local who grew up romping the streets of the downtown peninsula. The history of the city will come alive through the bricks and mortar still standing.

Martha met us at the customs house on East Bay Street. She was a pleasure to meet. She was the best tour guild. She truly loves her city of Charleston! Her knowledge of archaeology was such a bonus. She took us thru alleys and neighborhoods I never knew existed . My husband and I have been to Charleston many times..... More

Anne was a delight! We had a great tour and were so happy to have her as our guide! She has an amazing knowledge of the city and walking really was the best way to get a feel for the town.

I had been to Charleston once before, with my mother, who was not keen on walking two hours so we did a carriage tour. I learned a lot that trip, but nothing compared to what I learned on foot with Anne. I felt like we learned and were exposed to things unique to our tour as a result of having... More

I was lucky enough to have a tour all to myself (going in February has its advantages). It was delightful, informative, and relaxing. I was able to get answers to every single question I asked - it's nice when your tour guide is an archaeologist!

Both sisters truly love sharing the history of Charleston. We were shown several popular historic sites and some of the less traveled historic alleyways. The only thing detracting from the experience was all the road construction (noise, barrels, and trucks), which couldn't be helped. Great overall experience.

We thoroughly enjoyed our walking tour around Charleston today with our licensed tour guide Anne Middleton of Colonial Walking Tours. She is a 13th generation Middleton from Charleston, SC and has an amazing grasp of Charleston's historic role during the Civil and Revolutionary Wars. She also broaden our knowledge and understanding of the development of Charleston's economy, architecture, it's pivotal... More

This walking tour was perfect--two hours--just the right blend of historical stories and architectural information to make one feel that she has a sketch of the historical treasure of Charleston. Anne paints some broad strokes to give historical context; points the direction of very well-known areas to come back to and then takes the group to tour more unique sites... More

The walking tour with Martha was fun and informative. I have a whole new appreciation for Charleston after hearing all of the history of the architecture and events from the days Charleston was established to the present. Charleston is her home and it is easy to see that Martha loves it here!
