This attraction is on the grounds of the Magnolia Plantation; one purchases an $8 entry pass at the Plantation kiosk. Most of the viewing area is accessed via a very well done boardwalk and the remainder by causeway between swamps. Their full-time Naturalist, Stacy, has successfully cleared clogging "weed" mats and enabled several islands to host nesting egrets and herons.... More

While the nearby Magnolia Plantation may be the reason for coming here, be sure to include enough time to make the walk through of this fabulous wildlife gem. We got our tickets first thing in the morning, and then headed to the swamp garden to be able to see early morning sunbathers. We were not disappointed! We saw a myriad... More

I never seen a swamp park and this amazed me. It was unique, peaceful, and well-preserved. We saw many wild lives. You can see bird nests beautifully distributed on trees. We saw a crocodile sun bathing, a crocodile floating not far from the bench we sat on, and a crocodile on the side of the road -- we had to... More

We enjoyed several hours of easy strolling on this boardwalk-covered swamp. It's an smart way to enjoy nature & easy enough for seniors or families with children of all ages. The walk is basically a loop, but you can do as much or as little of it as you choose. It could all be done in less than an hour,... More

The boardwalk and paths through this unique swamp of cypress and tupelo trees offer a very special look at this watery world. It's magical! If you visit in the spring, this is a very active rookery for herons and egrets. They are everywhere, and in their beautiful breeding plumage! You can observe them displaying and building nests. A bit later... More

We have been here before and had a great experience but it was over 15 years ago. Before, we saw a Lucy swamp filled with wildlife but this visit, just two birds and a baby turtle were found in waters that were overgrown and in need of some care. We did run into one employee that told us that they... More

We went here our second day in Charleston. When we arrived at Magnolia Plantation at 8 a.m., I asked which we should see first, the Audubon Swamp Garden or the plantation. The manager said the plantation, and she was right. We came back our last day and did it again. Birds were amazing. They were like Christmas tree ornaments on... More

As a birder I was in heaven to see multitudes of warblers, wading birds, and a heron rookery! Early morning was an ideal time to explore quietly and take it all in!

Far from the hustle and bustle of downtown Charleston is this magical, still place that allows you to walk through an enchanted cypress swamp on an elevated boardwalk. Depending on the time of year you visit, the creatures you spot will change, but we saw lizards, turtles, and, most wonderfully, a bard owl.

This is an extra tour cost to the gardens, but it's a really small fee. If you want to see something different than a load of gardens, this is really cool. You get to see wildlife in it's natural habitat, turtles, alligators, herrin, egrets, etc. The boardwalk also has different horticulture postings and animal postings along the way with informative...
