This house is just...wow...how they fit all that stuff in there is one thing, how they arrange it so it looks good is another thing, but then how it all relates to the piece next to it. Its just layer upon layer of wow. Our guide was the site manager, you can find his photo in one of the books... More

The Calhoun Mansion is a must if one wants to see the beauty of old Charleston. It is privately owned (and lived in), has an amazing collection of art and antiques, and has a fascinating history with charming - and funny - stories of the original owners. Our tour guide was Denise, and she did a wonderful tour with her... More

We were walking by the Calhoun mansion and decided to stop in on the spur of the moment. It turned out to be effectively a museum for the current owner's vast antique collection, rather than a more historically-oriented house. The owner has an unbelievably large collection of antiques that are absolutely jammed into every nook and cranny in the house.... More

This is probably the best mansion tour you can take in Charleston. Mostly because of the incredible art and antiques that are covering every inch of the home. If this man were poor he'd be called a hoarder but since he's extremely wealthy and all of the objects are beautiful pieces from all of the world, he's a collector. Go... More

First of all, reading some of the reviews of this historic Mansion had me laughing to the point of tears. It is most unusual for a historic home tour to be so controversial. After reading seven pages of reviews, I knew this was a MUST SEE stop during my stay in Charleston. I was not disappointed! The 24,000 square foot... More

This was a real disappointment. To be fair, the guide, who was extremely hard to understand, warned the group that this home was unusual and quite eclectic. However, there was no way that warning could possibly prepare anyone for the price to disappointment ratio! If you are looking for true "southern Charleston" save your money and look elsewhere.

I enjoyed tour of the Calhoun Mansion but I must agree with others that the contents of the rooms seemed random and while interesting it is almost too much to take in. It reminded me of Hearst Castle here in Ca in that the owner seems to just amass a ton of art objects and just piles them in the... More

As soon as the tour begins, you will say Wow! The mansion is full to the brim with antiques and treasures and each room has a story to tell. The tour guides are excellent and can answer any question you can think of about the home, its history, its owners and everything in it. Located near the Battery, this is... More

This was one of the highlights of our time in Charleston. Unbelievable. We have visited many wonderful places but this is one of the best we've seen. It is filled......no CRAMMED with antiques. Very interesting tour given. Pleasant and helpful staff. If you're familiar with the mini-series North and South from years ago, this is the outside of the home... More

This home is actually lived in by its collector owner, so the tour is done via the roped doorways of each room.We only had 4 people in our tour, so there was no issues with being able to see everything. The house itself has some interesting history, as does the collection of various art, furniture and taxidermy. In this house,... More
